For dVerse March 12, 2013

Arise..Arise...

Someone handed me the mic
told me it was easy just say what you might
so, here I am with something to share
pull up a chair, or sit on the doorsteps of my mind
ramblings of a poet the neurotransmitters of the brain
I expose the door and welcome you with open arms
feel the inner humming,  drumming of my heart..
the driving beat,  that brings me to my feet
listen with receptive ears to what you hear
a story of a woman, who held a vision, a  dream
she stood on a distant shore,  of ancient times
ancestors from the past , ghostly apparitions ask..
where is the rest of you, where is the rest of you
what does this modern world hold..a trickle of blood
puddle of tears, a river of flowing sorrow and pain
where is justice, where is love, where is peace..
walking towards the message of seven generations of tomorrows
impacting her spirit to sing a song, a message of love
drifting  in the midnight hour, when the world is asleep
revelations  of yesterday flashing brilliance from within
believing in the truth of  dreams and starlit nights
dancing free under the glorious full moon
so much love to give, until the stars softly fell
from the heavens..she tried to catch the bright light
but, all she grasped was stardust..sprinkles of hope
quickly filling her lantern a beacon of faith..
a spiritual love is unconditional love
free from the constraints of human love
divine intervention from some other realm
songs blowing in the distant four winds..
gentle wail of a guitar, striking chords of harmony
from the darkness, a voice  rich and velvety smooth
rocking her soul a rolling lullaby
strumming her pain away, with gentle fingers
calming her  fears, drying her tears..a new vision
dark pupils dilate with possibility, for what was seen
the known and the unknown chime together
woven fibers in the tapestry of life, etched in the sky
above the throne of grace,  gateway to paradise
day of awakening in a golden horizon
arise, arise to a new light..beaming bright
a new beginning..

  2. Lots of poetic elements in this. I discovered internal rhyme, pacing, repetition, "lists." Skillful write and it does beg to be spoken aloud.

  11. "where is justice, where is love, where is peace..."

These are questions that really matter to me. I believe that those of us who have found/been found by the unconditional love that you speak of in this poem should be sharing it with those around us. That way we can be the vehicles of justice, love and peace in the world.

  13. This has a pushing rhythmic pattern to it almost so that you are falling into the next lines as you read. I can see this piece easily being read aloud as a spoken word - open mic type experience. Nice work. *there's a typo in the line "drifting in the midnight our when the world is a sleep" should read "asleep". :)
