Lady Liberty

Super moon 2013, Julio Cortez, AP

I stand for liberty
while broken in some places
construction under way
bringing hope to each
man, woman and child
to take flight on the
wings of freedom

I stand for light
in a world of darkness
reaching for that
dream, under  a
rose colored moon
landing full face
one step at a time

  2. i stand for liberty, even when broken in a few places...that says much...but we can not stop being the light in the dark...else the dark will win...and def we should still pursue that dream even if we are not there yet...

    1. Brian,

I agree we need to continue to be a light source for people who hold dreams of a better life. I hope you are enjoying your day!

  3. It is still being fixed up?
Damn, must be quite the hiccup
As it was this time last year
Isn't there millions of people near?
    Oh so slow
    But she does glow
She would sure be one big night light
    While her symbol burns bright

    1. I guess the work process
      can be slow as she
      always needs repairs but,
      her light will still glow
in the harbor for all to see
      Lady Liberty...

    2. Is it her light glowing
Or all the radioactive sludge that is growing? lol

      floating around...

      & enjoy your Tuesday see
      ya later..gator..

  4. I LOVE that photo...

If I were a better writer,
I would try lines of rhyme...
Instead I go about my day...
drinking those drinks made with Lime.

    LAME!!!!!

    HAR!!!

  5. LIKE: "Peace and light"...you poem, devolved from the picture, calls me to continue to have hope, faith, and to experience my gratitude for all this in action, not mere pacified sing-songing, "Oh , I'm so grateful".

Thanks for writing--that also is action.
    Peace and Light

  7. Truedessa, not to diss your poem... but I see the Statue as a broken promise. The power brokers in America do not want "tired, poor hungry; your huddles masses yearning to breathe free." The elite class in America wants medical students and rocket scientists, and oh, they will allow undocumented immigrants to baby sit their kids and trim their lawns, but other than that, they can go to hell.

Sorry. Your poem is lovely... but the American dream is gone, and I felt bad reading this hopeful sentiment. Amy

    1. Hello

In my poem I address the issue that some areas are broken and in need of repair. I still think it is a symbol of hope even if reforms are needed to bring about change. I appreciate your thoughts.
