That Tragic September Day

I remember the dream of a terrible accident
someone had been hurt on a September day
I saw a body, the paramedics, in a haze
and... I watched in horror in my sleep

I felt the anguish of a dream, a premonition
of what would come in the near future
I couldn't see his face , knew not what to do
who to warn, who to save, oh what a fate

I saw an angel hovering over a limp body
whispering soft words, a tremble of fear
I felt the dirt under my nails, the smell
of blood, painful cries of those nearby

I remember the chilling phone call...aching silence
as the nightmare unfolded a tragic reality
I knew who was fighting for each breath
as fate played out before our eyes

I cried with your family at the news
sense of strong will & a host of prayers
I had faith you would survive
under a watchful wing you healed..

I remember that day in September
it will haunt me to the end of time
I thought if only I could have warned you
bonded by a dream, silent screams

I remember that day in September...

authors note: This is dedicated to a friend...I remember...like yesterday..

    1. Hi Brian,

This is not related to 911 it is actually a separate incident but, still one that has weighed heavily on me and I will never forget. This is why dreams are so important to me and I listen in the night for clues.

  2. This definitely leaves me with a few chills. Yes, I think one has to pay attention to one's dreams, and then you wake up and find that the dream had really happened to someone you knew. If I am reading correctly, despite the tragedy, he did heal though. I hope this is the case & true. A powerful write this week, Truedessa.

    1. Mary,

Yes, he did heal..I debated on posting this poem but, the prompt came at the anniversary of the event so it spoke to my heart and the words just came like a river of emotions. The timing of "I remember" really was amazing as I was actually remembering this dream and the outcome.

  3. Oh this was strong and personal... September is beautiful, but seems a month were a lot of things can change for worse... that foreboding, and then a phonecall... it came out very strong.

  9. ... what a burden to carry - to wonder if such a dream will come again, if you are correct in the interpretation - if you will have time to make a difference. I can't imagine you sleep well.
