Captured

Self-Portrait, Francis Bacon

Will I be remembered
through the hands of time

Will you see me as I see myself
a man captured in the torments of life

Will you say I was a prisoner of my own mind
expressing  my world as seen through dark eyes

Will you feel my anguish, reflections of twisted emotions
through the camera lens,  black and white I remain for all time

But, will I be remembered...

  1. "Will I be remembered..." a poignant refrain. I ask myself the same thing on a regular basis. "Will I?" such a human hope and so wonderfully caught and held in this poem. Thank you!

  5. Indeed, that is the question isn't it? To be remembered in some way, and hopefully by name, not by some faded image of someone that nobody remembers. I like the usage of a question repeated at beginning and end, it enhances the feel of the poem. Well penned.

  6. The question is of so much importance.. but sometimes it should be asked ... for what will I be remembered... ? It's easy to be remembered... to some extent... Have a great new year.

    1. Bjorn, I hope I would be remembered as a dreamer with a vision and perhaps, for some of my poetry. Happy New Year!

  7. Said with such poignant essence. And the format of the poem itself is very pleasing to the eye.

  8. I think many of us have this same question. I know I do. I hope I am remembered for good, rather than for ill. A thoughtful end-of-year post.

  11. Usually we are remembered for the little fun things
That few know in our wings
    Even in black and white
I'm sure many are thought of as thoughts take flight

  13. I saw the darkness in this photo too Truedessa and think that he quite possibly was hiding something in his life & by hiding something I don't mean his face with the camera! I too hope that when my time is done on this earth that people will think of me again :-)

    1. Hi Kathrine,

Perhaps, you are right I've seen some of his artwork and you can see some conflicts with emotions in his work. I guess we can say he has been remembered. I think we all wish to be remembered.

      Happy New Year..

  16. I suppose being remembered translates to "did I mean anything to anybody?" Hopefully, it's true...even if only by a few...
