Rose Petals Fall

You thought you knew me
but, you knew me not

For if you knew me
you would know my heart

A rhythmic music box
revolving emotions

My love for you  so deep
it could move the ocean

Mystifying melody
behind a jeweled lid

A delicate golden locket
you hold the silver key

 Yearning,  trembling hands
 unlock this magical spell

Collapse within my silky skin
dance on a coverlet of smooth satin

Falling rose petals  soft  moist lips
innocence of a  lover's first kiss...

Musical sighs circulate the air
penetrating my heart and soul

A romantic interlude
then you will know me!

  1. Sometimes it seems people think they know you, but you can see that they don't know you at all. I have had that experience occasionally, and it is disconcerting. Especially when it comes to matters of the heart. Always good to see you at Poetry Pantry, Truedessa.

  3. A romantic interlude can sure show the way. A person will never be looked at the same way, looked upon with wider eyes, as two become more wise.

  4. Why is it the loving that we hold most secretly from those who seek it? Or maybe it is we want him/her to seek it, to want to know us that well. I love how this poem exposes what lies behind the locks that the one addresses doesn't even try to find the key to.

  5. smiles... a romantic interlude can be a good first step to get to know someone... though i think the deep knowledge comes often in the difficult times as well..

    1. Claudia very true the more time you spend with someone the more you get to know them through the good and bad times.

  6. We sometimes think we are transparent to those we love and might occasionally realize this is not the case, their fault or ours. You seem to provide a remedy at the end of your poem.

  7. Let's face it, in this world, no one can really know us more than we know ourselves. Yet sometimes even our very own self face a difficulty to define self. Ah, now that's a good one, Truedessa, & I like your ending couplet. Lovely! smiles.

    1. Ah Kelvin, so true no one really knows us more than we do and sometimes we may not truly understand ourselves. So, good to
      see you again.

  8. how much do we truly know of another...its a give and take...what we are willing to be open with...and what we are willing to take in of the other...to open ourselves up to...there is a bit of fear there too...of rejection...of drowning...

  10. Music box - nice way to describe it and a great visual.
We'll never know another completely, but that gives us many years of discovery.

  14. I'm not a poet by any stretch of the imagination. But, I certainly enjoy the written word when it's placed like that. Lovely :)

  15. I'm sorry but I had such a feeling of letdown when you said "A romantic interlude, then you will know me!" I thought "One" Not so! It takes much more than that one romantic interlude to know someone . . . to love someone. Not only love that is attraction and chemistry for that is only the beginning, but love that is commitment and patience. Love that is understanding and support and love that is helping each other without manipulation and without selfishness.
He/she loves me . . . he/she loves me not becomes a child's game without the somberness to realize the gravity of the task at hand.

  17. So many people think they know us, but very very few actually "know" us, actually see deep inside of us to our heart's core. And then that happens, it's a beautiful feeling. Beautifully written as always Truedessa :)
