Valley of the Rocks

Courtesy of Red Shoes

Oh,  to  travel  beyond  heavenly star beads
entering  realms  where  ancient  ones  drum
aromatic  purple  sage, drifting tumbleweeds
deep within russet earthly  soil, vortexes hum

salmon canyons,  wild  spirited  horses  run
thunder- bird hovers,  full of energy and light
journey quest  beyond  the burnt  orange  sun
hot desert  oasis , primordial power in flight

clustered buttes,  monuments of  sandstone
towering  totems , spiritual animal guides
breaking  hushed  silence, winds gently moan
within canyon walls mysticism  resides

lost in thoughts echoes of horse hooves

gold//yellow rays sashay across an electric blue sky
traveling cinnamon valley of stone and sand
chanting primal songs shadowy apparitions cry
sensing vibrations, inner heartbeat of the land

sunlit vista, journey into the great unknown
majestic castle butte, fortress of dreams
towering cliffs , view of a king on a throne
flickering in the horizon golden sunbeams

beneath scorching sun,  parched dry earth
souls wander protecting sacred gateways
cool rain quenching thirst, offering rebirth
dancing rhythm, rain makers give praise

lost in thoughts, embracing renewal

  3. Amazing take Truedessa! One can see lots of beauty even in arid and dry surroundings. It is a question of what one cares to see. That will determine how much one can see!

  11. What a picture you paint. Your poems made me think of Santa Fe/Taos areas of New Mexico where I live. It reminded me of the Native American culture there, so in love with nature. I love your colors and the beauty you invoke.

  12. This is absolutely glorious - such vivid imagery - the horses hooves, the sage and tumbleweed, the red canyons.....a spectacular photo too - would be so awesome to be there in person. In your poem, I almost am.

    1. Hi Sherry,

It certainly has a story to tell filled with magic and the allure of nature it's like someone took a brush and painted the scene.

  13. You summed it up even more so than one who has even been there. So much to see even if at first glance it does look bare. Spirits and stone together as one, protecting the road to other realms beneath the scorching sun.
