Love and the DeadMan

The dead man wanders in a lost world
and he contemplates when did he die

Did he die a slow death losing pieces
of myself  in the journey of life

He thinks of her and wonders how
she is doing since he went away

He left her so suddenly he knows
it broke her heart to see him go

He can still hear her voice as each
word haunts him through eternity

Perhaps, he should check in on her
to make sure she is surviving

He creeps in to watch over her
lurking in the shadows of her room

Her breathing is shallow he longs
to caress her warm flesh to kiss
her soft lips, to drown in the blue
         pools of her eyes...

What he would give to have that one
moment of  pleasure pure ecstasy

Suddenly, she tosses and turns
sleep doesn't come easy for her

He lies down next to her inhaling
her scent an intoxicating perfume

She senses him in the room and
awakens..tears falling from her eyes

She reaches for him, but all she grasps
is cold air, he whispers hush my love

He stays with her until the morning sun
awake as she sleeps & dreams of him

It's  not easy being a dead man in love

  1. i think that is the toughest part when we have to go - leaving those we love behind, not knowing if they will be ok and longing to spend time with them...feel their breath...

    1. I believe the departed have the ability to visit those they have left behind..often they come in the form of a dream state.

  4. How terribly sad it can be I imagine specially when it is sudden and unexpected ~ Cherish those moments shared with each other, I say ~

  6. I like this, Truedessa. I do wonder sometimes what the dead are doing after death and whether they can sense how much they are missed. I like the picture you have painted here, the idea that the dead can return for a time & comfort, if only for a short time, the one who was left behind.

  8. Sad, love after death. Still, I hope love does survive after death. That may be all that remains.

  10. We do tend to think it is worse for those left behind, but it could very well be worse for those who passed, having to watch from the sidelines. Death hopefully is just another step in the journey though and love can still shine through

    1. Pat,

I do believe it is just another step in the journey as the soul lives on in another form and dimension.

  11. Is there poetry after death? Hell, death is poetry. That realm that awaits will probably be as diverse as this living plane of existence. Will there be guides & counsellors to aid us in acceptance, in the life review, in the planning for what comes next; all speculation and loose-limbed hope.

    1. Glenn,

There are guides & counselors waiting in this world and the dream world to help guide our path..Who knows what waits on the other side..I think we share some same thoughts...:) Always, enjoy your perspective.

  14. I believe spirits stop in check on loved ones; every blue moon, my mom says she feels a cold hand run across her while she sleeps; sometimes feels a presence standing over her as well. She thinks it's her Auntie Jesse, because they were so close... Beautiful write, Truedessa :)
