Destination Unknown

he walks  south
we drive north
steady stream of cars
rolls on...
each day we see him
wearing ear buds
boppin' down the street
come rain or shine
even on cold  snowy days
from where he comes
to where he goes
I do not know
wearing  tattered clothes
worn skin, brittle smile
I often wonder
about his soundtrack
the one he walks the beat to
what songs play in his world
hope his battery holds a charge
making his way through life
taking it one tune at a time
walking down the
 Boulevard of Broken Dreams
maybe, the sun will come out
Tomorrow

    1. I always wonder what he might be listening to as he travels through
his day. He seems content in his shoes as he makes his way.

  3. It does make you wonder where he's going and what he's listening to. Might be his set routine or he might be going to work.

    1. I am not sure where he goes, but he travels the same route. I wonder if he cannot afford the bus or maybe, he likes to walk to the beat.

  4. I really like this poem, Truedessa. This man reminds me of other such people, the anonymous we come across every day and thus become part of our routine. Yet we seldom question who they are unless something special about them captures our attention.

    1. That is true. One morning I did not see him and I was wondering if he was ok. The next day he returned and I felt a sense of relief knowing his journey continued.

  5. Maybe he is a spy, checking out all the cars for a bad guy. Pretending to be listening to tunes, when he is after all the loons lol

  6. Truedessa, really this is one of my favorites of your poems! Excellent! You have really 'shown' this man & given the reader a sense of him. Yes, sometimes we do wonder about those we see regularly...and about the 'soundtracks' that play in their minds!
