Island of Dreams

Truedessa and Capt'n Pat met one day
seeking  an enchanted island of dreams
they built a ship, so they could sail away
rays of hope fell upon them in streams

Now, these two were often called fools
as they believed in a utopia filled land
following heavenly stars the only rule
the adventures to be had were grand

These two fought  pirates on the sea
and sometimes an evil  menacing  ghost
Grumpy Blue said Bora was the place to be
they set the course from coast to coast

Capt'n Pat traveled with a spotted cat
Truedessa's head full of lofty thoughts
looking skyward the two would often chat
the view would be different as astronauts

One night the waves grew raw & rough
tossing their  vessel from side to side
the two knew darkness would be tough
in a small shallow voice Truedessa cried

Washed ashore,  in the morning light
she looked about,  their vessel broken
Capt'n Pat was now nowhere in sight
spotted cat by her side no word spoken

On a small island Truedessa did stand
a balmy breeze amidst tall palm trees
her senses alert foul play is at hand
sunlight  glistened upon a deep sea

Following her inner voice into the brush
the sound of warrior drums growing
cat and Truedessa sprinted with a rush
in  blue  haze a vision started showing

An army of monkeys had Capt'n Pat
who was behind this sinister plot
an empress laughed, wearing Pat's  hat
"who will save you from this lot"

The empress spoke of  magical stones
Truedessa would offer to make a deal
stepping out into the light as it shone
the spotted cat closely at her heels

The empress was impressed by her glow
I want rare gems hidden in a secret cave
bring me the stones and I will let him go
if not, you two might dig your own grave

Now, Truedessa agreed to the wicked terms
the cat by her side and some monkey guards
she would feed that evil woman some worms
calling upon the powers of pirates graveyards

Traveling the trail upwards towards the sky
conjuring lions to chase off a monkey or two
a battle of wit,  as a mystical dragon did fly
beyond the vines,  the cavern came into view

Truedessa entered into the dark cold walls
as bats flew around her head in swarms
trembling from cold, she thought she'd fall
from somewhere a burst of fire kept her warm

Two  giant gemstone glistening inside the lair
lustrous eyes of a dragon with a beating heart
Truedessa softly sighed and said a silent prayer
to injure this creature she would have no part

Descending the mountain,  she needed a plan
how would she appease the fury of the empress
under a setting sun,  she met a mountain man
who offered her help in  a magical necklace

Returning  the empress demanded the gemstones
Truedessa  held out instead  a strand of white pearls
explaining  they came from the eternal life throne
Just as the empress placed them on the wind whirled

The belly of the earth shook,  a giant quake
Capt'n Pat hollered we need to get out of here
around the empresses neck a hissing snake
choking on her own words, she disappeared

Truedessa and the cat quickly set Capt'n Pat free
running towards the beach in record speed
they longed to be back on  their ship on the sea
swooping down a dragon came in a time of need

Jumping  on his back they soared the skyline
Truedessa exhausted fell into a deep sleep
Capt'n Pat and his spotted cat were fine
resting in the land of nod a dreamer weeps

author's note: This was written in the spirit
of two light hearted fools. May they always
follow that star of dreams...For those who
don't know I have written several of these
adventures in the past.  Thanks for taking
the time to read this long story/poem.

    1. Hi Alex, I have a few of these in drafts and the spirit moved me to post one today. She was wise indeed as the dragon is a loyal friend and she would face the consequences of the evil force before she would hurt such a magical creature.

    1. Hi Mary,

I know it has been a while but, I guess the new year made me a bit sentimental. I decided to post one as those "fools" did have a good time looking for Bora.

  15. ah, a most arresting epic here - hooking us from beginning to end. I also like the subtlety of the rhyme; it never overpowers, with several half-rhymes seeing to that and aiding the flow. good stuff!

  17. I love these whimsical adventures with Pat. If setting out on a magical adventure is foolish and dumb, then I don't want to be considered smart. I'd rather fight a horde of monkeys!
