Song of the Conch

unknown source

resting on the water's edge
life seems to have drifted
away

all that remains is an empty shell
       filled with musical notes

listening with an attentive ear
to the soft whispers from a distant
shore...

     singing in a rippling tide
     songs from the heart

written for dVerse Quadrille #24
writing a 44 word poem
incorporating the word
whisper.

  5. "all that remains is an empty shell
    filled with musical notes"

That sounds like plenty to me. As long as there's music, I can be quite happy.

  6. 'resting on the water's edge
    life seems to have drifted
away' - has to be the best reason for going to the beach, Truedessa. I wish I could find a shell on our beach that is big enough to hear a whisper.

  12. I like the idea of listening to the sounds one hears in one of those shells to be like hearing the sounds of a distant shore.

  22. Distant shores, echoes in shells, sea takes away meaning...powerful stuff. Perhaps in the end we are left with our own song of the heart.

  24. Ah, this makes me so nostalgic because of how the musical notes and soft whispers found in those empty shells open up a whole wide world to a child with an imagination!!

  27. I always feel like I'm drifting away, but I guess part of life is accepting that we don't always have the control we think we do, and those waves are going to take us regardless of how hard we fight against them. Love this poem.

And a fine job of bringing in the word "whisper.' I just realized, on looking at my old blog on the duck, that you visited me there last June 7 and I just now found it. I don't get over there, much, anymore. See you
    at Pat's or Blue's.
