Sealing the Deal

Truedessa's Collection

Awakening on an island of dreams
surfing waves to the ocean's rhythm
morning star, heavenly light beams
my eyes behold a wondrous vision

surfing waves to the ocean's rhythm
harbor seals sing a creative song
my eyes behold a wondrous vision
intuitively, my heart sings along

harbor seals sing a creative song
emergence of balance, life reborn
intuitively, my heart sings along
harmony,  on a summer morn

emergence of balance, life reborn
I see, with eyes of understanding
harmony, on a summer morn
my consciousness expanding

I see, with eyes of understanding
morning star, heavenly light beams
my consciousness expanding
awakening on an island of dreams

  2. I love both poem and photo, and am glad seal gifted you with a visit. I love the form and rhythm of this poem. I remember walking by the ocean, feeling someone was looking at me. It was a seal, close to shore, looking at me with soulful golden retriever eyes!

  6. Always expanding should be the way as the seals and waves enjoy the bay.

  10. love the title!
i think the form works very well for this poem, the repetition of the lines like the waves washing up to shore. it's great that animals can connect with us. :)

  12. I've said this in the past, and I will repeat a version of it because good things should be chanted often: I love what you do with circles, the way your poetry feeds on itself and in doing so creates something bigger and bigger and bigger... This poem makes me think of mandala creations, circles and glorious balance drawing in the psyche until we, too, "see, with eyes of understanding... [our] consciousness expanding".

  13. Most wild animals are so skittish when humans approach. It's always a pleasant surprise to find one who isn't.

One night I was driving home on a poorly-lit road, and I could just barely glimpse something in the darkness ahead, right in the very middle of the road. From a distance, it almost looked like someone riding a bicycle. As I got nearer, I realized it was a deer. He just stood there, pretty much ignoring me as my car got nearer. (In other words, this was not the proverbial "deer caught in the headlights." He wasn't even looking my way. He wouldn't even move when I drove slowly past him, close enough to reach out and touch him through my open car window, had I wanted to. Amazing.

    1. Hi Silver,

Thanks for sharing that story. I have had encounters with deer as well and it often felt a bit surreal as if time had somehow been suspended.

One night, while driving home I experienced a strange feeling. I knew something was up a head. I drove down the dark road about a 1/2 mile and I saw some cars pulled over but, I couldn't see what was ahead. I drove a bit further and there was the deer. He was actually down on his knees. I thought, was he hit? There was the strangest silence at that moment. It was as if he was waiting for me, he suddenly jumped up and walked in front of my car and passed by my drivers side. He looked at me then darted off into the woods. I still remember this encounter. There was something other worldly happening that night.

So, I think it is rather cool that you had an encounter as well :)

    2. Heh. Sounds like the same deer!

By the way, next Saturday night I'm posting about the tornado that hit my town, Webster, last Saturday. I was there when it hit.
