Checkmate - Who Really Wins

Singer Castle - Truedessa's Collection

I dreamt of knights in shining armor
guarding a castle  across the harbor
there was a king in search of a queen
in a place that he had never seen

I dreamt of pawns caught in a game
moving cautiously, hiding their shame
battle of wits, but who would win
in the corner, the jester widely grins

I dreamt of a queen in search of a king
in the courtyard below, a troubadour sings
enchantment softly whispers in her ears
drifting in a sea of slumberous tears

I dreamt of a castle somewhere in time
where there is poetic verse and rhyme
between the rook and king, slightly unseen
under the tapestry of life awaits a queen

I dreamt of a kingdom where light reigns
heart of a dragon, magic always remains
together in this land, they wear no crown
proclaiming love in audible verbs and nouns

Thank you for visiting

  2. You built a castle of poetry. Love is never a house of cards.

  4. Oh I once knew those dreams of castle, prince and princess........your poem took me back there, to when the world and I were young. Sigh.

  5. A world where the mouths that birth words are royal, how fantastic! I bet the dreamer danced and danced at the sounds, celebrating—I would have!

  8. I enjoy getting lost in dreams and fairytales – even better when they’re fairytale dreams. The repetition and rhyming couplets are perfect for the theme and I especially loved:

‘I dreamt of a queen in search of a king
in the courtyard below, a troubadour sings
enchantment softly whispers in her ears
drifting in a sea of slumberous tears’.

  13. Kingdom where light reigns...!!! Like that! Especially in this era of darkness.

  14. That is quite a romantic subversion of a traditional chess game — I really enjoyed the poetics (rhymes and rhythm) and emotional candor of this worldly verse. Loved this bit in particular: "I dreamt of a castle somewhere in time/where there is poetic verse and rhyme/between the rook and king".
