Pondering a Question

Why do trees conceal
     the splendor of their roots?

              Pablo Neruda, Book of questions.

Why do trees conceal their beauty
the splendor of their roots
stretching towards the blue sea

pondering drinking morning tea
listening to the songs of a lute
why do trees conceal their beauty

from your first seed you drew me
tasting the magic of your fruit
stretching towards the blue sea

in darkness shadows appear gloomy
wilderness dreams become acute
why do trees conceal their beauty

underneath the canopy, do you see
will the forest greenery be reduced
stretching towards the blue sea

a being of complexity and rooty
one of a kind, can't be reproduced
why do tress conceal their beauty
stretching towards the blue sea

Weekends are Meant for Dreaming

Once we gathered friends on a mountaintop
sharing pieces of our hearts through dream work
drumming to the beat of seasonal raindrops
once we gathered friends on a mountaintop
chanting for peace to the heavenly gods
writing our intentions on skins of birch
once we gathered friends on a mountaintop
our dreams often finding a place of birth

Tail of the Dragon

Dragon Tail - TN

Chasing dragons is never an easy task
especially when you're riding it's tail
slicing through the mountainside
navigating each wondrous curve

hold on tight, use intuition and caution
a feisty unknown can be exhilarating
but, danger unfolds when entering
deep into the lair of wilderness

blazing eyes daring you onward
adventure roars fiercely in you ears
can you conquer your inner fear
maneuvering the twisty haunted terrain
listening for the sobs of time travelers
apparitions waiting for your arrival

crossing the challenging threshold
into dense forests takes courage
there is intense immersion with nature
words of wisdom to those who ride
beware of its bite...

author's note: I recently took a trip to TN and there is a road called "The Tail of the Dragon" it consists of 318 curves in 11 miles.  The scenery is beautiful but, the ride is menacing. US129 a stretch of road in the  Smoky Mountains.

Silver Night

Free Flute Keys photo and picture

Beneath a hazy sky, the library courtyard becomes a stage.  A silver headed musician belts out some rhythm and blues.  I find myself drifting into a time machine, lost in the melodies.  All I have to do is dream, dream, dream, dream fills the evening air.  Running through his catalog of original songs and some amazing covers. Any Elvis fans in the audience?  Of course, there are as he proceeds to stir us with his own rendition of "Suspicious Minds".  Hiding the tears from my eyes behind my shades, I sing along.  "Why can't you see, what you're doing to me".  The guitars, flute, drum and upright bass create a wonderland of sound on a summer night.
