Despite and Still

Despite

Despite the dark December wind
and the shadowy tall barren trees
one can hear the groans of fragility
limbs ready to break in two…

Despite my grieving heart
and the emptiness that remains
one can hear the caws of the raven
wings fluttering in the darkness

Despite the cold winter chill
and the frozen days of yesterday
one can hear the cries of brokenness
hearts cracking from the weight of loss

Still

Still the light of December placid skies
and its promises of evergreen trees
one can hear the whispers of sturdiness
branches swaying in unison…

Still my soothing heart
and the memories that remain
one can hear the songs of cardinals
wings of red fluttering in the light

Still the warm winter sunshine
and the thawing days of tomorrow
one can hear the distant sighs of renewal
hearts healing from the lightness of hope

You Drew Stars

Once, you drew stars around my scars in dreams under a midnight sky.  In my place of refuge far from the waking world you were a conjurer of words. I a willing apprentice absorbed in a fable like story created by some heavenly script writer.  The stars were so bright that I had to close my eyes for fear that the clarity of a love story would end in some twisted plot.

Watching you swagger across the stage of another realm offering pieces of your heart in return I gave you pieces of mine.  You a troubadour of song and I a lady of poetic words.  We danced, affectionate lovers,  across the page, cheek to cheek whispering sonnets rhyming words and worlds.

Then, someone drew the curtain and we exited side stage.  You went your way and I went mine a wicked blue ending.

Without You

There are no flowers
To lay on your grave
There are no words
To ease this grief

There are no hymns
To sing good-bye
Within my heart
A broken poem

Within my mind
Memories of you
My brother, these
Tears I cry for you

author's note:  For my brother whom was battling Cancer
never gone just transformed....My heart has been heavy

Tonight, The Veil Thins

Tonight, the crescent moon wanes
Tonight, the crescent moon wanes
The veil between the worlds thins
The veil between the worlds thins
The Crescent moon thins, tonight
Between the veil the worlds wanes

The departed make late night calls
The departed make late night calls
Sudden chill fills the autumn air
Sudden chill fills the autumn air
Late night calls fills the autumn air
The departed make sudden chill

Blackbirds caw from barren trees
Blackbirds caw from barren trees
A horned owl watches from the pines
A horned owl watches from the pines
From the barren trees, from the pines
A horned owl watches, blackbirds caw

Tonight, the departed make calls
Late the crescent moon wanes
The worlds thins, sudden night chill
From the pines, blackbirds caw
From barren trees, a horned owl watches
The autumn air fills the veil between

Ghost From Another Time

You are the one that will haunt me forever
filled my heart with poetic poems and songs
believing our bond could never be severed
I guess, in your world I never really belonged

Heard through the grapevine you’re feeling fine
built yourself a new life filled with new dreams
but at night at quarter past three, there’s a sign
a whisper in my ear, an apparition in moonbeams

tossing and turning in a parade of ghostly memories
cymbals clanging with darkness and perplexity
drumming of my heartbeat creating new energies
and the voice that I love is filled with complexity

in the mist, drifting back into a state of deep rem
outside a shimmering star, a one-of-a-kind gem
