Unwavering Light

The Sunday Muse

We  all  need space to grow
tilting our faces towards the sun
turning from darkness to light

 on common ground, unified
standing unwavering, side by side
a time of deep communing

braving harsh realities of life
planting seeds for tomorrow
expanding roots into the earth

bowing our heads in exhaustion
food for thought, heavy some days
but, our blooms will brighten the way

loyal

  steadfast

    optimistic

     peaceful in nature

Dear Universe

Deep inside my heart
are words unspoken
with humbleness, I  pencil
my intentions
on shiny stars and moon paper

wishing to release negativity
and evoke positivity into
the world

It is my hope that these
words will burn fueling
 change in humanity

With love
Always

Dreamin' of Purple Gladioluses

Shelter me from the daily news
life ain't always a pleasure cruise
the dark storms keep rollin' in
prayin' for light and peace to win

Shelter me from tremors of night
my soul escapes on wings in flight
the outside world seems hopeless
I'm dreamin' of purple gladioluses

shelter me, creator of grace
grant me a sanctuary, I can embrace

Shelter me from pain & loss
how many roads must I cross
redemption is a prayer away
wildflowers grow in disarray

Shelter me from the daily news
life ain't always a pleasure cruise
the dark storms keep rollin' in
prayin' for light and peace to win

shelter me, creator of grace
grant me a sanctuary, I can embrace

Shelter me from hate and greed
good intentions should be the creed
a bouquet of sword lilies in my heart
when will this dark sorrow depart

Shelter me from the daily news
life ain't always a pleasure cruise
the dark storms keep rollin' in
prayin' for light and peace to win

shelter me, creator of grace
grant me a sanctuary, I can embrace

Where is Spring?

Stork, White Stork, Bird, Bird Nest

The weekend snow another reminder that winter had no plans to move on.  I
turned the clocks an hour ahead.  How can I spring forward?  The earth is covered with
another six inches of snow.  There are no visible signs of spring.

Weary from the day, I slip into bed,  wondering where my dreams will take me. I set
an intention to find spring. Drifting into the dreamscape, I wandered lonely as a cloud.
On white fluffy wings, I soar seeking spring.

Below, the river ice jams are loosening.  I see the raptors are on the move.  A pair of
red-tailed hawks are courting, swooping and circling the sky. I hear a concert of
hooting owls, music to my ears.  A red-headed woodpecker is adding percussion.
The songs of spring seems to be everywhere and love is in the air. Embrace it!

Set It Free

Art by Catrin Welz-Stein

You held my songs captive

keeping my thoughts hidden

but, love should be interactive

dancing with life's inner rhythm

writing notes, pondering keys

which will unlock inner dreams

the stars and moonlight tease

over the horizon, light redeems

my heart locked in a cage

set it free, set it free,  says the sage

take a chance, on change

songbirds need freedom to sing

which key will unlock the heart

let's experience the beauty of spring

we need to find a new place to start

opening the door to true happiness

will you find the right note and key

to fill the void of inner emptiness

the songbirds need to be set free

my heart locked in a cage

set it free,  set it free,  says the sage

take a chance, on change

What Do You See

river preserve

I ask you, what do you see
do you see a fallen tree
that once stood tall along
the river edge or do you
see something more

I ask you, what do  you see
do you see transformation
from a living species to a
drying species, unable to
weather the storms

I ask you, what do you see
do you see a great buck
symbolism of regeneration
do you see the black bear
that swam across the river
from the mountains in search
of an adventure

I ask you, what do you see
do you see the swagger of
the bobcat that roams
these preserved lands

I ask you, what do you see
do you see the feathered
winged friends fluttering
from tree to tree, do you see
the heron fishing with patience

I ask you, what do you see
do you see the squirrels and
chipmunks scampering about
searching for nuts and berries
do you see the raccoons and
muskrats

I ask you, what do you see
do you see the ancient maps
of the ancestors of the land
carved out in time promoting
healing in the spiritual quest

Tell me, what do you see
do you see that I am a hybrid
of all the animal spirits
that I have encountered

Tell me, what do you see
