Shelter me from the daily news
life ain't always a pleasure cruise
the dark storms keep rollin' in
prayin' for light and peace to win
Shelter me from tremors of night
my soul escapes on wings in flight
the outside world seems hopeless
I'm dreamin' of purple gladioluses
shelter me, creator
of grace
grant me a sanctuary, I can embrace
Shelter me from pain & loss
how many roads must I cross
redemption is a prayer away
wildflowers grow in disarray
Shelter me from the daily news
life ain't always a pleasure cruise
the dark storms keep rollin' in
prayin' for light and peace to win
shelter me, creator
of grace
grant me a sanctuary, I can embrace
Shelter me from hate and greed
good intentions should be the creed
a bouquet of sword lilies in my heart
when will this dark sorrow depart
Shelter me from the daily news
life ain't always a pleasure cruise
the dark storms keep rollin' in
prayin' for light and peace to win
shelter me, creator
of grace
grant me a sanctuary, I can embrace

A poem, a song, a prayer, or whatever it takes to bring shelter to the heart & soul
I like the repetition in your poem. It has both the quality of a Blues song and a prayer. A prayer I'm making too. Suzanne (wordpress blog) Mapping Uncertainty
ReplyDeleteIt does have a bluesy sound.
ReplyDeleteMay He shelter you.
Beautifully written, True. Most of the world is in search of safe sanctuary these days. I love the rhyming and rhythm in this poem. Especially impressed with rhyming hopeless and glaioluses....well done! Smiles.
ReplyDelete"shelter me, creator of grace
ReplyDeletegrant me a sanctuary, I can embrace"
Reads like a prayer.
May we hear of that peace soon
Much💜love
A lovely, lyrical, heartfelt song! We all need this kind of shelter wherever we can find it.
ReplyDeleteThis could be adapted to be song lyrics....like that style very much....
ReplyDeleteHere is a song I would play often, having the purple glads and iris and the constant prayer that others might have the sanctuary too. I benefit from you finding sanctuary here with poetry. Love. If you ever sing this, please send the song!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely a song for the time which we all sing along to!
ReplyDeleteWe do have way too much sadness coming in from the news... I wonder though if it helps to be sheltered...
ReplyDeleteThis could be a great song
Hmm interesting sheltering from the news might put one in denial. May need to revise that part. Thank you!
DeleteSounds like a beautiful prayer/song. I love gladioluses.
ReplyDelete"grant me a sanctuary."
