Will the society of the future be one of forgetfulness
Casting a net in hopes of catching pieces of truth
Believing in false prophets with promises of wealth
Who will sit and partake in the fish of great wisdom
Do we choose pieces of life we wish to remember
Do we bury love with the promise to never forget
Do we let the fire of life burn to smothering embers
Do we carry on with a heart full of sorrowful regret
Will the society of the future be one of forgetfulness
Embracing a modern world of artificial intelligence
Doubting our existence in some strange sci-fi plot
Who will sleep and partake in the dreams of life
Do we choose amnesia as an artwork of survival
Do we unearth remnants of ancient sentinels
Do we ignite flames of hope, a spiritual revival
Do we relinquish our hearts unintentional….
Will the society of the future be one of forgetfulness
Settling for a world on the cusp of extinction
Yearning for buffalo, salmon and seeds of thought
Who will lead us into the land of mindfulness …

What's Going on? Forgetfulness
To a degree, we will, as some have already tried to erase history and make us forget what happened in the past. Bring on AI, and we won't even need to think anymore. Sad.
ReplyDeleteThere is lots to think about in this poem. You have raised some great questions and have expressed what we are facing so well. I think we are headed for rocky shores, with no good leaders to guide us. Such fine writing, True.
ReplyDelete"Do we choose amnesia as an artwork of survival"? I'm trying to imagine this. Your powerful questions make this a forceful poem. By the last two lines, I find myself vowing not to forget!
ReplyDeleteTruedessa, you have really covered a lot of bases in this poem. I hope that humankind will not have to settle for a world on the cusp of extinction. I hope something will happen to turn the world around and ignite those flames of hope again! Such powerful writing.
ReplyDeleteWhat good questions. The future does indeed look very strange from our present times. AI consciousness seems to be taking over and so much is being forgotten. I hope we do find ways to come back into mindfulness about the natural world. Suzanne - Wayfaring - Wordpress blog.
ReplyDeleteDo we choose amnesia as an artwork of survival - love this... and yes, there is erasure of truth and history and more manufactured thought and consent...and innocents being slaughtered in the process. That last verse is so powerful..
ReplyDeleteTruedessa, your poem's rhythmic flow and thought-provoking imagery invite deep reflection on the direction of society and the choices we face. The themes of survival, hope and spiritual revival resonate powerfully, urging us to consider the legacy we will leave behind.
ReplyDeleteTwo contrasting pictures arise out of the theme of forgetfulness brilliantly, Truedessa. It's sad that in our times we are witnessing this crisis in civilization. The faith in the humankind visualizing the 'land of mind-fullness' is another powerful image. We survive in hope.
ReplyDeleteI understand the outer world less and less as I get older.
ReplyDeleteExcellent writing, Truedessa!
ReplyDeleteHope is a powerful elixir for living in a world we daily wish we could forget and escape. Somewhere in the shadows memories haunt with, It wasn't always this way.
ReplyDeleteWell done, True. Well done. I definitely worry about the future.
ReplyDeleteHave Happy Holidays. Sandra

ReplyDeleteI think we all worry about the future–with good reason. Some things are worth remembering; some are not.
