Fans in the Night

photo-Wikipedia

Restless night
listening to the sound
of ceiling blades cutting
through my thoughts

dissecting our words
into syllables, pieces
of our hearts linger
in the spring heat

thirsty for lost songs
remembering our verses
the nightingale softly sings
and I wonder do you hear

  1. Oh that's nice. The sound of night birds. I had forgotten about those. When we lived in the country, there was one called the common lesser nighthawk. It was a smallish common looking brown bird, that sang like a whip-o-will, very beautiful music

  5. "And I wonder do you hear?"
It's hard to imagine one wouldn't tune into the beauty and the truth, given a choice.

  8. You had me with the title and the first stanza. The sound of the ceiling fan can be mesmerizing --- and then the nightingale. A very melancholy feel to this. I enjoyed it very much.

There's a wistfulness here of times once experienced but no longer. The lost song of the nightingale brings it home. Lovely.

  15. How many times I've tossed and turned to a ceiling fan cutting through all kinds of my thoughts. It takes a poetess to turn the mundane into magic words that capture so many feelings!
