She makes the sounds the sea makes
always riding the currents of life
waiting for the waves to break
songs of the heart in the tide-line
forming a rhythmic design
overhead the gulls take the wind
with her breath and sacred dreams
wondering why starlight has dimmed
sometimes you win
sometimes you lose
sometimes you can't choose
sometimes you sing the blues
salty sprays fill the pools of her eyes
drifting in memories of yesterday
wondering when the sun will rise
songs of the heart in the tide-line
forming a rhythmic design
she makes the sounds the sea makes
always riding the currents of life
waiting for the waves to break
sometimes you win
sometimes you lose
sometimes you can't choose
sometimes you sing the blues
sometimes you sing the blues
sometimes you sing the blues
author's note: inspired by a friend.....this one is for you....

Sometimes we sing the blues, all right.
ReplyDeleteYes, we do blue ....it's been a rough month...
DeleteThat explains why you've been quiet. I can relate, True.
DeleteSuch a beautiful song of the sea and one whose heart is attuned to its roar.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sherry!
DeleteI love this metaphor. It works so well!
ReplyDeleteThanks Dwight
DeleteLove your wordcraft, True! Great poem, more so to inspire a friend. We do get the blues but empathy rightly extended goes a long way. How's things with you Ma'am? We are celebrating Hari Raya (equivalent of Christmas) on April 22nd. We do this on completion of Ramadan, a whole month of fasting during daylight hours.

Thanks Hank! Life ebbs and flows going through the motions of my life. I had to google your celebration as I wasn’t familiar with it. I don’t know if I could fast for a month. Wishing you peace.
DeleteFor me this is a very nice "blues poem", haven't read one for a long time. I was in a "Sometimes you have no choice" situation 54 years ago, not fun. This one changed my whole life. And vary wary for about eight years.
ReplyDelete..
Thanks Jim, I guess I am feeling the moody blues.
DeleteSometimes we have to sing what we can.
ReplyDeleteThat is true Alex, sometimes it is hard to find a melody.
DeleteBeautiful as always.
ReplyDeleteThank you Dear Sandra for always being supportive :)
DeleteA true sea-blue(s) poem, Truedessa, and I would love to join her ‘riding the currents of life / waiting for the waves to break’. I love the ‘songs of the heart in the tide-line / forming a rhythmic design’ and the gulls taking the wind ‘with her breath and sacred dreams’ – an atmospheric poem.
ReplyDeleteThank you Kim the gulls do have a way of taking wind, breath and sacred dreams.
DeleteSometimes we sing the blues, indeed. There is something wrenching sometimes about hearing a soulful blues sung. Putting it by the ocean makes it a grander thing, a more monumental thing, that putting it in a small smoke-filled pub or tavern on a small wooden platform stage.
ReplyDelete"salty sprays fill the pools of her eyes
drifting in memories of yesterday"
I love these lines.
Thank you Lillian, I have been feeling a bit blue.
DeleteOh I love this, the use of the sea as a metaphor for the sorrow is so very strong, the sounds, the tide poles... This should be sung
ReplyDeleteBjorn, thank you for your kind words - I have a melody in my head for it...
