As The Four Winds Blow

Do you hear that sound
calling me when I sleep
speaking in a tongue
from ancient drums
whispers of the wind

Do you hear that sound
calling me to awaken
growling bear from the north
battling snowy skies
whispers of the wind

Do you hear that sound
calling me to open my ears
panther from the west
prowling across the land
whispers of the wind

Do you hear that sound
calling me to open my eyes
moose travels from the east
swift hooves,  a breath away
whispers of the wind

Do you hear that sound
calling my soul to arise
brown eyed fawn from the south
summoning summer gentleness
whispers of the wind

posted for dVerse writing about wind
based on the legend of how the winds
were named.

  1. I like the repetition of the beginning and ending of each verse and the animals associated with the directions. The fawn summoning the soul...that is just so lovely. And anyone who has looked into those innocent eyes knows it is so. Hayes Spencer is Kanzensakura

  2. Loved the flow of animals - they carried well with the wind theme... This totally made me think of "Four Winds" by Bright Eyes... don't know if you're familiar with that band...

    speaking in a tongue
    from ancient drums
    whispers of the wind... excellent...

the repetition is very powerful with each stanza as well :)
