Illusions

artist unknown

I woke up the day you drifted away
memories linger, mysterious dreams
a broken heart amidst a starry sky
I woke up the day you drifted away
poetic words, burnt in ashes of gray
reality is not all that it seems
I woke up the day you drifted away

  1. Your poem makes me think of someone who's taken a special person for granted and only realised when it's too late. I like the reinforcement by the use of repeating lines.

  8. Reality is often completely drunk on fantasy (and on leaving, it seems).

  9. Another master piece from you. Just love it the way it flows. Please let me know the poetic form too?

  10. Waking up to emptiness is so deeply stirring. Also love the image in "poetic words, burnt in ashes of gray"....

  11. This is a tragic read, and yet I'm hoping that this ultimately makes our narrator a stronger person for having endured it.

  12. I don't know if it is a sadness as much as a reality. When one drifts away, it changes our world. Who is to say if it is good or bad. It opens us to new realities and allows things we never knew possible.

I hope your dreams are good Tru. I have been studying a bit on my great great grandmother who was native American. Continuing to understand new aspects of my blood.

  14. 'I woke up the day you drifted away' ... such a truly haunting line and - I suspect - often the way of it. A lovely piece.
