Blue Rose
How will I compare thee, for ye stand alone
How will I compare thee, for ye stand alone
an elusive blue
rose, among the reds and whites
wonderfully enchanted, I softly moan
heavenly scent, reaching new heights
soft petals,
glisten in the evening dew
thorns pierce the
heart with loving verse
collapsing into
sweet dreams of you
love in abundance,
our souls converse
your vibrant hue
sets you apart
many wonder where
your garden grows
seeking your
beauty, wondrous work of art
behold the
magical blue rose
unending hope lies within you
remaining ever strong and true
author's note: For a Blue Friend...a new shade of blue..Happy Birthday from me to you!
What an enchanting sonnet ... and with that little Will coming in there in the beginning... a blue rose sounds make me think about Burns as well.. Like this a lot.
ReplyDeleteBjorn,
DeleteThank you so much..I am glad you enjoyed it..the blue rose is not a natural rose..but, it holds great symbolism.
Thanks for the thoughtful hint..much appreciated..you are the best..smiling..
Deletedant know that i have ever seen an actual blue rose...everlasting hope sounds wonderful though....love the visuals you spin on it though and the intimacy too...smiles.
ReplyDeleteHi Brian,
DeleteBlue roses do not grow naturally but, I have seen one and they are beautiful..one gaze and you would feel the magic.
Lovely... and thank you!
ReplyDeleteLaurie,
DeleteThank you for reading and your comment.
I have seen a blue rose before and its breathtaking ~
ReplyDeleteLove the sonnet and rhyming words ~ Thank you for being part of D'verse ~
Grace,
DeleteI too have seen a blue rose and they really are enchanting.
Sweet words for a blue friend. Beautiful textures in this sonnet. Lovely
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for visiting and the lovely comment.
DeleteThis is beautiful. I have never seen a blue rose, but anything is possible. But I do know that blue IS ever strong and true!
ReplyDeleteHi Mary,
DeleteIt is something you should behold once in your life..thanks for the visiting as it is always nice to read your comments.
Have a great night..
I too was enchanted by the beautiful image and magical sonnet !! Happy OLN !!
ReplyDeleteHello,
DeleteThank you! I'm glad I could enchant you for a spell. Have a great night!
A blue rose you say
ReplyDeletePfft making things up at your bay
But that is okay
Hope the blue friend is less blue at his bay
If it is the one I am thinking off
Either way the cat will be nice and send a dead dove
A yummy snack right?
Maybe in a certain light
A blue rose I did say
DeleteI'm not making things up
of course they don't grow
in the natural world..
that is why they are elusive...
full of mysticism..
I'm glad the cat will be nice
perhaps, he should eat mice
he can't eat a dove a symbol of love
Doing much better. Thank you, Pat.
DeleteThe dove is yummy
DeleteIn the cat's tummy
And glad grumpy goo
Isn't so grumpy at his zoo
Oh and there is a plan
You may be a fan
Create blue roses by the ton
Sell them, then off to bora bora we'll run
That's a plan, alright!
Delete@Pat
DeleteSo the cat swallowed the bird
you naughty cat, at your mat
a new plan today, at your bay
well, this one is a bit better
I might say..
@Blue, so you think the cat
has an alright plan...
(whispering) Ssssssst.... It's a diversion... I'm being a cat-patting double agent here. (end of whispering) What do you mean, Truedessa? Of course I think the Cat has an alright plan. We need the dough to fly our handsome behinds too that Bora Bora kitty litter beach. It might work.
DeleteOh Blue,
DeleteI haven't a clue about all these plans
but, it would be nice to get to the
white sands of bora bora land..
Have you not robbed that bank yet? I saw The Cat 'wants' you too.
DeleteThat will never happen..I told
Deletethat cat he needs an honest
plan.
An honest plan?
DeleteThat's like asking a cat to be a man ;)
Lovely, romance with the flavor of the old world.
ReplyDeleteBeth,
DeleteThank you for taking the time to read and the lovely reply.
Have a good night!
A soulful piece!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the visit and note. Have a lovely day!
DeleteBeautiful classic flow to this. Move over Elizabeth Barrett Browning!
ReplyDeleteVictoria,
DeleteThank you so much for the wonderful compliment. So kind of you...
Dear Truedessa,
ReplyDeleteLet me take off my Sillycap for a moment and respond the way proper grownups do. I just read your poem and let me tell you, dear, I'm as speechless as I will ever be. Thank you so much. No one's ever written a poem for your blue friend before. Except for The Cat that is, but never a sonnet. I'm touched and all smiles now. Thank you. My birthday's on Friday, so I'll consider this an early birthday present, and you know I'll have this one printed and framed... if only to stay true to my unrelenting vanity and my innervoice that can't believe you would write such beautiful lines for me.
Hi Blue,
DeleteFirst, I am glad you are feeling better and I hope this lifted your spirit. Please consider this an early birthday gift as this is what it was intended to be. I've added a notation under the author's note.
I wanted you to have something special to read when you are feeling blue..and you know strength always lies within you it's true.
You lifted me up when I was feeling blue. You made me smile and I told you smiles go miles and always will in my book.
Have a beautiful day inside and out...
Truedessa
The cat just threw up in his mouth a little bit, mushy stuff blah, or maybe it was a hairball.
DeleteWhy am I not surprised haha Better read that again, Cat: 'You lifted me up when I was feeling blue.' Ooooh he's such a jealous kitten, Truedessa. Better write something for him one day. Maybe I should do it.
DeletePfft wait until Friday at my bay, I'll have the both of you on display
Delete@Blue - I will write something for the cat if he would like one day..I'll have to ponder what to say. We better watch the cat's display who knows what he might say come Friday.
Delete@Pat - What is this cat up to at his bay..what will Friday bring????
That cat will let the pictures do all the talking
DeleteAs all come a gawking
@Pat - Hmmm..the cat has pictures you say
Deletewell, this should be some eventful day
You have me a bit curious you see
as I want to know what will be
Now, cat see what you've done
I won't be able to sleep under
the midnight sun..zzzzzzzzzzzz
The only pictures he's got
DeleteAre pictures of his own furry butt
Found them on youtube... some kind of show
Better not be curious, Truedessa for it's a definite no-no
'Cause if you check out those pics you'll find
Your eyes start to itch and then you'll go blind
Good thing I've got my special x-ray shades for protection
Or I'd be a victim of that kitty Cat infection. ;)
Hey Blue,
DeleteWhat are you up to?
No pictures you say
I should stay away?
Perhaps, I need to
borrow your shades
but, tomorrow is your
special day...
Thanks again for the song
DeleteWith a song like that it couldn't go wrong :)
You are welcome! Thank you for the smiles...
DeleteBlue to the bone and no mistake. My favourite colour and my favourite music. Great write.
ReplyDeleteJames,
DeleteThank you so much for dropping in and I might add we share the same taste in music. May we always hear those blues. Have a great day!

Deleteadore our blue rose...
I'm told some Cat is on a Blue rose diet.
DeleteI'd better go into hiding.
$10,000....
This sheds a whole new light on being blue, Beautiful poem!
ReplyDeleteHi Charles,
DeleteThanks for the visit and the kind words. Hope you are enjoying your day.
smiles....he has gone through a couple journals already actually...we are going to make one together tomorrow so he has one to carry with him...until then he has been happy to steal mine to write in...smiles.
ReplyDeleteBrian,
DeleteThanks for swinging back over that is great that he keeps journals. I keep several as I never know when a moment of inspiration will hit. It is always great to nurture a mind so it can blossom with creativity. He is lucky to have you as a mentor/father. Have a good night!
Thanks for stopping by and I really enjoyed your 'blue' poem.
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome and I am glad I stopped by..thank you for the
Deletereturn visit. We will have to do this again soon.
It's a really fun poem. You even made the thorns uplifting: "thorns pierce the heart with loving verse."
ReplyDeleteHi,
DeleteNice of you to drop by and thanks for the kind comment. I'm glad you enjoyed the poem.
