lights slowly flicker
fast approaching storm
lightning flashes in an ominous sky
trembling trees, dark clouds form
seeking refuge, birds quickly fly
thunderous roar, heaven rumbles
summer rain begins to tumble
cooling hot streets giant puddles
red robins safely huddle
watching night lights flicker

Lovely. And how I love the scent of rain-washed air.
ReplyDeleteYes, the air had a wonderful scent.
DeleteWe could sure use some rain in B.C. none in sight, 166 wildfires burning, 40,000 displaced. Your poem made me remember the fresh scent of that rain that follows a thunderstorm.
ReplyDeleteThe storm that pushed through had quite the light display. The lights flickered I thought I'd be in the dark.
DeleteI really enjoyed all of the imagery, especially the summer rains tumbling. This is remarkably well-written.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much!
Delete'night lights flicker' reminds me of the darkness we're compelled to plunge into after a thunderstorm. However these days almost everyone has an inverter battery to ward off stormy darkness.
ReplyDeleteI still like to light candles when the power is out, but I do have flashlights.
DeleteYou captured it well!
ReplyDeleteThanks Alex!
DeleteThe storm came and captured its way before the sun came back to play! Or more rain haha
ReplyDeleteTwas more rain and I believe a bit more tonight.
DeleteHi Truedessa - the storms are coming here ... and they do rush in - lots of excess rain warnings too ... great rendition of the lights - flicker - crackle - cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteYes, the weather channel was very busy keeping people updated regarding flooding along the riverbanks and power outages.
DeleteNice! Love those last images of the rain cooling hot streets and the robins huddling.
ReplyDeleteThank you for visiting and leaving your thoughts :)
DeleteYou nailed this, True. And the picture is perfect.
ReplyDeleteThank you Sandra!
DeleteWhat wonderful atmospheric conditions for writing this wonderful poetry~
ReplyDeleteThank you, I couldn't use my computer so I thought I'd write about the storm as it was happening.
DeleteThere is something magical about a summer thunderstorm!!!! Well writ!
ReplyDeleteI agree, I usually sit by a window and take in the display.
DeleteWe are 38 days without rain here, watering gardens & lawns, huddling inside around our A/C while concrete bakes & roses wither outside in the swelter; your quadrille was gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteI hope you get rain soon, your part of the country is thirsty.
DeleteYour end words alone are a poem unto themselves. And your poem rumbles, tumble through more than one reading. Nice.
ReplyDeletehaha - your comment made me smile. Thanks
DeleteWe could use this kind of storm right now--with heavy rain. We are surrounded by wild fires and the storms we get are mostly lightning and that only starts more fires. Good descriptions.
ReplyDeleteThe west has been hit with extreme heat and drought, I hope it rains soon.
DeleteLove the imagery in this one!! It feels like rain pouring on the page.. rekindling the spirit and muse ❤️
ReplyDeleteThank you Sanaa - rekindling the spirit and muse..I like that!
DeleteAh.. To see the beauty in these foreboding moments
ReplyDeleteMartin, there is still beauty even in a storm.
DeleteWe just had our rains and storms here too but not this week ~ Summer is finally upon us ~ Thanks for sharing your poem ~
ReplyDeleteAnd being part of our community ~ It was a pleasure to invite you many years ago to join us and I am glad you did ~ Take care ~
Thank you Grace, I still remember the day you invited me into the community.
DeleteI remember thunder storms when I was a child when the electricity in the house would flicker and perhaps go off.
ReplyDeleteThe flickering lights is always a sign.
DeletePaints a picture of the storm so well.
