A Heart of Courage

wikimedia

"The lion is the symbol of the soul essence of humankind
And the soul is eternal"

Nature has given us many warnings of future events
yet we walk blindly in denial, fearing the truth of what
is and what will be

How many wild fires, earthquakes, floods and volcano
eruptions must we endure before we realize we are
losing sacred ground

It's not too late to open our eyes and awaken our inner
spirits. We must be guardians of our planet and all it's
living creatures.

We all walk our own journey seeking enlightenment,
for light is truth in our souls, perhaps we lack the
heart of the lion that is filled with courage and can
tackle the beast of fear

The ghosts of yesterdays follow us today and sadly
will haunt us in generations to come.  Are we the living
dead waiting for our own awakening?

Tell me, we will experience a shift in thinking before we
are all just ghosts?

I believe there is hope and hope is what sustains me...

Poetics: Last Lines
Taking the last line of a book and creating a poem
of your choice.

I grabbed the first book on my nightstand that I saw.
Mystery of the White Lions - Children of the Sun God
by Linda Tucker.

I guess it's a bit of free verse...

also linking with Earthweal
prompt #2 Ghosts

I have been having dreams with lions...

  1. Free verse and yet it had the same rhythm as your poems. That was a good last line to pick - you wrote something beautiful and poignant to accompany it.

    1. Thank you Alex, I believe there is always hope. There are people doing good things to help during times of disasters. I just wish we could stop the disasters from coming.

  3. Ghosts in some traditions live on in some form after death in a sort of purgatory for wrongs done against them, or for sins of their own (murder victims at the site of their death, or Bob Marley in "Christmas Carol," bound by the chains of his usury and greed). They are duple, and here they are too, both the living dead and the dead in life. Not a good way to be dead or alive, and the hope in both cases is some act of recognition or atonement. May humanity wake from its dream of surfeit and mastery and become a living part of the Earth! Well done!

    1. Thank you Brendan it is my hope we will all become part of the living Earth. There is still so much beauty around us. Let’s keep it that way!

  4. "Are we the living
dead waiting for our own awakening?" A very pertinent question. It's indeed beyond tragic what's been happening all these years. The only thing left is Hope. The only sustenance. True.

  5. There are lots of ways to be dead and alive at the same time. The life of the soul is the theme here for me.

  7. If we don't have hope we have nothing. I like your lion, they way they stare us down is courageous. Too bad there wasn't some of that in the halls of Congress.

    1. So very true hope is the important ingredient in life. Lions have been showing up in my dreams.

It takes courage to stand up for ones beliefs! Politicians tend to paint a pretty picture in hopes of scoring a vote.

All I can say is choose wisely and most importantly Vote!

  9. I don't have any hope we will see the error of our ways. If anything saves us it will be the self-interest of the multinationals when they realise they are sawing off the last branch of the tree and they are sitting on it just like the rest of the planet.

We are never free of the events of old to be subject to them following our progress and putting fears in between. How very true,True!

  12. Ha, one of the most amazing books I have ever read. We are losing sacred ground indeed. The legend is that the fate of mankind and the white lions are linked. When the last white lion dies, it will be the end for us. Hopefully there will be a great awakening. Hopefully SOON! Loved your poem, my friend.

  13. I do have hope... there are so many things that we all can do (and don't do) so I see no reason for us to destroy ourselves.
