June's Gems

"Flaming June" by Frederic Leighton

Exhausted from a June day
flushed with sunlight rays
slipping into a daydream
as crazy as it may seem
she still thinks of him

courtesy of The Sunday Muse

 He promised her pearls
in an ocean of oysters
threading endearments
one precious gem at a time
how, was she to know
she'd get entangled in
a strand of vintage faux
tip toeing
away

  1. Oh, it is wonderful what you have done in this poem - the faux pearls, the faux promises...........and yet, we never forget the romance of such unmatched days.........sigh.

He had a new-to-me line. Pearls were well received by Mrs. Jim though. Our DIL picked them out for me.

  9. Love your interpretations of the images. There is heat and also emotional chill in the ending.

  10. Lovely verse for the images. I see we both saw the pearls as fake.
