"Flaming June" by Frederic Leighton |
Exhausted from a June day
flushed with sunlight rays
slipping into a daydream
as crazy as it may seem
she still thinks of him
flushed with sunlight rays
slipping into a daydream
as crazy as it may seem
she still thinks of him
He promised her pearls
in an ocean of oysters
threading endearments
one precious gem at a time
how, was she to know
she'd get entangled in
a strand of vintage faux
tip toeing
away
in an ocean of oysters
threading endearments
one precious gem at a time
how, was she to know
she'd get entangled in
a strand of vintage faux
tip toeing
away

Oh, it is wonderful what you have done in this poem - the faux pearls, the faux promises...........and yet, we never forget the romance of such unmatched days.........sigh.
ReplyDeleteHe had a new-to-me line. Pearls were well received by Mrs. Jim though. Our DIL picked them out for me.

Great linking of the two images. Nicely done!
ReplyDeleteThank you for illustrating how powerful and deep micro poetry can be. Excellent work.
ReplyDeleteNothing like summer lassitude to bring back thoughts of years gone by.
ReplyDeleteWonderful offerings,True! Cleverly constructed to offer an uncanny connection between the two of them.

Love your interpretations of the images. There is heat and also emotional chill in the ending.
ReplyDeleteLovely verse for the images. I see we both saw the pearls as fake.
ReplyDeleteHow delightful!!! Both poems perfectly matched with their counterpart images.
