Autumn the season of the travelers moon
exhausted, softly falling into a bed of leaves
crossing the threshold of a mid-night dream
strolling the fields of heaven's colorful hills
notes of the harmonious evergreens fills the air
Under a canopy of red, yellow and orange
a welcoming baptizing spray of radiant light
how many moons will it take to reach the peak
wise owl watches intensely in the shadows
gatekeeper flapping between the two worlds
Ushering in change before the bitter frost
the dying leaves, crunch under pressure
searching an old orchard for a sign of life
planting seeds of intention in the night
harvesting dreams can be difficult work
the fruit of the journey is the sweet reward

Mooning around hosted by Sarah
I was thinking that this had a dreamy feel - and then that stunning end line came along. Lovely images here.
ReplyDeleteSarah this prompt was moving much like the traveler moon. So many places to wander in a dreamy state of mind.
DeletePoor old ‘travelers moon / exhausted, softly falling into a bed of leaves’. I love the phrase ‘crossing the threshold of a mid-night dream’ and the use of autumn colours to light up this gentle poem before ‘Ushering in change before the bitter frost’. Yes, harvesting dreams can be difficult work.
ReplyDeleteThank you Kim, autumn a time of transition. Harvesting dreams is indeed a hard job. If, the seeds were planted and took root in the spring one can reap the benefits in the fall.
DeleteI love owls and moons in chill fall nights — it’s also romantic, and you did a nice job here true! I enjoyed it — well written my friend.
ReplyDeleteGood morning Rob, we often travel the same vein of thought. Synchronicity under the full moon.
DeleteAh, the Traveler's Moon. I know it well, many spots round the world. That full moon knew how to keep me on the right path/road. Well done.
ReplyDeleteHi Helen, Traveling moon lighting your way!
DeleteI like your theme, seasons of the being pinned down, The doings of the owl suited me fine, "wise owl watches intensely in the shadows." I might look to see if I can have him sitting in on my action.
ReplyDelete..
Thanks Jim, owls and moons seemed to fit well together.
DeleteI think I would like to lie down beside that tired traveler's moon...
ReplyDeleteIt would be a restful slumber, i think….
DeleteThe picture and verse weave together perfectly.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sandra
DeleteA travelers moon - how wonderful. A beautiful poem. Fall has not yet arrived here, it is overdue. Drought. Looking forward to the rains finally arriving.
ReplyDeleteHopefully, the rain will quench the thirst of the earth.
DeleteGorgeously wrought, every sensation marvelously captured and the personification of the moon, autumn itself, works brilliantly. I especially liked travelers moon/exhausted, softly falling into a bed of leaves." Perfect.
ReplyDeleteThank you for visiting and leaving your thought. Much appreciated.
DeleteCounting by moons is the best way of measuring time. (Kerfe)
ReplyDeleteThat it is and the ancestors have been doing it for many moons.
Delete"planting seeds of intention in the night"
ReplyDeleteHow lovely!
