Tonight, the sky is gloomy
yet, the moon illuminates light
thoughts of you consume me
the night makes me feel moody
there are lost dreams, to rewrite
tonight, the sky is gloomy
the heavens are full of beauty
sometimes stars are too bright
thoughts of you consume me
gone are the fall leaves of ruby
wild northern geese take flight
tonight, the sky is gloomy
dreaming of an emerald sea
there are poems yet to write
thoughts of you consume me
this darkness I didn't foresee
scribbling on pages of white
tonight, the sky is gloomy
thoughts of you consume me

Can definitely feel the consuming gloom.
ReplyDeleteThe repeated lines saturate the poem with emotion. So poignant. Our hearts miss our beloveds. Sigh.
ReplyDeleteI know those gloomy skies. Yes, there are poems yet to write!
ReplyDeleteThe repetition of lines brings builds it emphasis well.
ReplyDeleteA poignant poem and the repetition works really well its like "the thoughts of you" pressing themselves to the foreground Very nice
ReplyDeleteA lovely villanelle. I hear it like a song.
ReplyDeleteI love the use of a villanelle.... and it mirrors my thought of November so well.
ReplyDeleteA delightfully gloomy villanelle, Truedessa, illuminated gently by the ‘fall leaves of ruby’ and the dreams of an emerald sea. I smiled at the line ‘there are poems yet to write’ – a beautiful burden we poets have to bear.
ReplyDeleteThe repetition makes this work hit home. (Makes me want to try a villanelle again.)
ReplyDeleteI believe the villanelle is the most lovely of all forms ~ yours is exquisite, True.
ReplyDeletePoetry - not just for the happy times, Aaron...
