Do Not Weep - I Have Your Back

The Sunday Muse Picture Prompt

Do not weep child, my spirit is with you

you often came into the woods to play

on the grounds marked as my territory

often sharing your lunch when no food

could be found...berries and bread to

fill hungry bellies

your gentle and respectful

nature, a joy to watch from

my vantage point

The hunter came and you heard the

the shattering gunshot of my enemy

quickly, running to my side, heaving

your trembling body upon my wound,

spilling blood, soaking your protective apron

your tears falling into my eyes as I inhale

and exhale my last few breaths

Your grandmother came and knelt by

my side....taking my giant paw in her hand

she called upon the ancient spirits to lead

me home...over the sky bridge

A mournful cry, compassion in my wolfish eyes

grieve not friend, my spirit will always be

with you ...I will guard your back in darkest times

when you see the daisies in the clearing

know that I love you

as, for the hunter, the pack will pick up

his scent and have no mercy....for I am

the alpha....

Author's note:  I saw this prompt yesterday and thought
I will think about it.  Well, last night this played out in my
dreams.  It was a bit unsettling and I woke with teary eyes.

Lone Wolf

For the Sunday Muse

 I have traveled many moons

in search of signs of the wolf clan

they once occupied this land

guardians and path finders

from generation to generation

the wilderness our beautiful home

now there is barely room to roam

old territory narrows, food is scarce

survival depends on basic instincts

a voracious appetite for freedom

wandering through each new season

where have my once large pack gone

hot from the summer night, I pause

the days have grown much longer

thirsty for a drink of cooling water

the only kin I see,  is my own reflection

a lone wolf, a free spirit, untamed

Our Song of Tomorrow

artist unknown

In my dreams I have seen the wolves cry
roaming in search of a place to reside
who will listen to their  warnings signs
reaching for the stars above the pines

lone wolf I hear your songs in the night
apparitions dance under silver moonlight
ancient drums,  walking the spirit realm
owl perched in branches of a winged elm

in the wilderness of our hearts, we bury sorrow
rhythm of life we desire to keep,  not just borrow
we shall sing with the wolves our song of tomorrow

in my dreams I've heard the twigs snap
drinking  in the sweetness of maple sap
walking with ancestors from days past
warriors  beyond the veil running fast

around a roaring fire,  seeking wisdom
eyes gleaming, a brightly colored prism
distant thunder,  a symphony of howls
awakening  as nocturnal life prowls

in the wilderness of our hearts, we bury sorrow
rhythm of life we desire to keep,  not just borrow
we shall sing with the wolves our song of tomorrow

in my dreams, I've spoken in native tongue
remembering  all the songs left unsung
red tailed hawk calls, whispering  in my ear
between the shadow of trees you appear

your gentle spirit hovers mere steps away
everlasting imprints in the moss and clay
an appetite for freedom basic survival
awakening moon announces your arrival

in the wilderness of our hearts, we bury sorrow
rhythm of life we desire to keep,  not just borrow
we shall sing with the wolves our song of tomorrow

A dream shared between friends

Author's Note:  Sherry in an email had used the
phrase " We shall sing with wolves our song of tomorrow"
my muse was inspired and we agreed to both write
a poem this week to share with Poets United. The only
requirement was to use that line somewhere in the poem.

Sunday Mini Challenge - Release Your Inner Wild Woman

"Inspire Howl Wing"
copyright ~ Ella of Ella's Edge

She Wolf...

Within the mysterious eyes of the wolf
lies a woman with ties to ancient days
her spirit runs wild a roaring river
thick coat keeps her warm in a storm

She dances at the edge of ancestor's fires
dreamers of dreams, awaken with hope
visionaries in an ever changing world
shape shifters move with ease in a breeze

Within the shadows of silver moonlight
wolf woman hovers within the trees
spirit entwined with  mystic powers
beware her black eyes, for they have seen

High above the mountain walls
scent of freedom blows in the wind
eerie howls echoing through chambers
heart of the wolf pounds to a water drum

Grey skies, under a full moon she cries
where is my land, where is my home
a place wild and free to roam
wishing to never journey alone

The beat of the wolf lives on...

Author's note: This picture spoke to me as I have a great respect for ancient cultures and I study dreams and dream works. I started writing this piece yesterday, the spirit  of the she wolf spoke to me in my dream last night. I hope you will feel her story.
