Dryad by Todd Lockwood |
Willow loves nature her home in the trees
planting her roots deep into the earth
waltzing to the hum of the bumble bees
songs heard in a breeze, a dryad at birth
mystical protector light in vibrant hues
swaying in rhythm to the rivers beat
on her limbs in ink forever tattooed
he comes to write verses at her feet
here in this spot the two become one
spirits soaring, a dragon's mighty tale
composing great fantasies in the sun
until the day she opened her email
developers had bought all the land
her lovely green home would be cut down
willow cried for days, she could barely stand
they wanted to expand growing a bigger town
Willow packed her things, where would she go
traveling homeless, he whispered her name
a new place to be, her wings began to glow
for you my lovely dryad, I've come to claim
together they
found a new forest of dreams
where tree nymphs don't have to sign a lease
dancing gleefully under
blue moonbeams
in a 100 acre wood they finally find peace

i am glad she found a new place...i wonder how long before a big box store buys that one out as well...ugh...hopefully they are never truly homeless...and we keep some trees...
ReplyDeleteHi Brian,
DeleteTrees bring so much beauty into the world and I am sure they each possess a spirit. It is so sad when I see a vast area cut down to expand a town, to build another strip mall that will someday be deserted as well.
way too many forests are cut down and the trees and birds and animals lose their homes... glad she found a new one...
ReplyDeleteClaudia, that is true I guess I have trees on my mind as fall brings changing colors. I am reminded of their beauty. Those tree nymphs are rather shy.
DeleteSo good she could move - probably lucky at least for a while.. We should listen and talk to the trees
ReplyDeleteGood Morning Bjorn, she had no choice they were going to cut down her home and she was left homeless.
DeleteSuch a beautiful piece - it left me sad, as you build it and then finally felt happy that she found a new home - such grave reality and you blend with mythology well.
ReplyDeleteThanks for joining my prompt.
Thanks Abhra I had a couple of ideas but, the tree spirits wanted to be heard.
DeleteI love trees, a beautiful piece.
ReplyDeleteI love trees as well..
DeleteIt is good that she found another forest she could move to. I hope the time never comes where she is left homeless in this world.
ReplyDeleteMary,
DeleteOne can hope that nature will survive and the nymphs always have a place to call home.
This is almost the tale of every tree in every land and we'll pay high price for a single tear drop of a dryad..sigh...
ReplyDeleteThat is true, it is said to make peace with a dryad before taking their home or a curse will be put on you.
DeleteLiving in WA state, surrounded by forests & two mountain ranges, smack in the middle of the volcanic Ring of Fire, being a mountain man at heart, loving the reforestation that is evident wherever logging has been tolerated or "necessary", your wonderful take on the prompt really resonates with me; nice job.
ReplyDeleteGlenn,
DeleteSounds like you are surrounded by nature in all its splendor. Thanks for visiting. I do enjoy your comments. Have a great day!
Pathetic how so many are cut down to build new homes and stores when there are already plenty of homes and stores out there. So called progress isn't progress at all many times. But always another place it seems indeed
ReplyDeleteI worry that there are all these vacant shopping centers as they move to another location. Why can't they be torn down and trees planted? But, I guess that would take money and usually those who own them don't live in the towns so, they don't care.
DeleteAnd hopefully they won't cut down the 100 acre wood some time soon... urgent and powerful reminder, a great use of myths
ReplyDeleteThanks we need to keep the magic of the 100 acre woods.
DeleteStupid email.
ReplyDeleteDoes she live now with Winnie the Pooh? Tell her to stay away from Owl.
Well, it might be a rather fun place to live full of adventure. Owl, is said to have wisdom.
DeleteI love the ending. Whew!
ReplyDeleteSherry my friend thanks for visiting.
DeleteAh.. dam the luck that electronic meanie! and the elements of contracting human and mythological heart dot com.. come squeezing in again!
ReplyDeleteThere is a place to the east and north of where i live.. that ne'er a cell town signal never meets!
i think i saw Willow and Dyad out there last month.. and now i'll know what to look for..when i go back this Sunday...
Well yeah..the computer part is no mythology.. there are still some wilds left in deep south rural North Florida!..;)
Hi, well in today's world electronics are used to communicate. Ah, Florida does have some great wetlands that are unspoiled.
