Sharp Blades Hurt

Once, I dreamt in fields of green
in a world where all seemed serene
following the tune of a magical harp
today, the blades of grass feel sharp
my heart aches and poetry hurts
thoughts are tumbleweeds in the desert
of my wandering mind....

Thank you for reading!

I haven't been around much, recovering from a bad case of covid….

  1. Tumbleweed thoughts would be painful indeed. I love the visual this gives those blades of grass.

    1. Reminds me of Rem lyrics:

      Everybody Hurts
      Don't let yourself go
      'Cause everybody cries
      Everybody hurts sometimes

  4. Great use of contrast and rhyme, Truedessa, and I love the idea of thoughts as tumbleweeds in the desert of a wandering mind.

Not just in wandering minds either. It's impossible to be entirely serene, knowing what we do of the world.

  8. Hi there! This immediately made me think of elephant grass. Probably because I've been editing my Vietnam novel. A lovely little quadrille. BTW, I love REM!

    1. I just googled Elephant Grass. Those blades are tall, one could get lost in that grass. Good luck with your book!
