Cinderella thought she
found her prince at long last
believing in love at first
sight she was swept-away
by his promises of love
but it was all an illusion
his sparkling eyes
his radiant smile
dashingly handsome
she couldn't resist his allure
it was all deceiving
the magic spell faded
she found herself alone
sweeping up the ashes
of yesterday
no longer a believer
shattering the glass slippers
of a once upon a time
fairy-tale
written for What's Going On
hosted by Sherry
The idea was to choose an old fairy tale and re-write it to make it your own.
Thank you for reading...best I can do on an extremely hot day...
stay cool if you are in the current heat wave
So many young women fall into this romantic trap that you capture in this poem. Wish she had "shattered her glass slippers" earlier. But the bad stepmother always made the man seem the safest choice--another deception.
ReplyDeleteThis comment is me, Susan.
DeleteSeems one needs a clearer perception to see through the haze of deception. Thanks for reading Susan
DeleteI think a great many of us have swept up those ashes. I still watch romantic movies and believe - just not for myself. My prince had black fur and he is irreplaceable. Smiles. I love this poem!
ReplyDeleteI still enjoy a good Hallmark movie full of romance and happily ever afters. Thanks for the un-fairytales prompt.
DeletePoor chica. I hope she finds better things around the next bend.
ReplyDeletePoor chica indeed…Tomorrow is just a dream away
DeleteSeems like a more realistic ending... the spell had to be broken!!! I believe but don't believe too!!
ReplyDeleteWalking the line of fantasy and reality is never easy.
DeleteYou’ve captured the reality of un fairytale endings perfectly - Jae
ReplyDeleteThanks Jae need to take off those fantasy lenses.
DeleteI’m afraid many of us are swept away by charm and promises, only to find ourselves sweeping up ashes. I never liked glass slippers anyway.
ReplyDeleteHaha glass slippers are overrated…
DeleteThat is very sad but life is not a fairy tale.
ReplyDeleteSad indeed and life is def not a fairytale but they both have good and bad characters in the story. The outcome depends on the twists in the plot lines.
ReplyDeleteSad reality most of the time kills the fairytale this way. You've expressed this beautifully. I specially like :
ReplyDelete'she found herself alone
sweeping up the ashes
of yesterday'
Love that line - "shattering the glass slippers" - Perhaps we all need to shatter the illusions - Lovely writing.
ReplyDeleteThis is a good one for sure!! Thanks I love it. annell
