When Tomorrow Comes

Separation by Edvard Munch 1896

When tomorrow comes
I will wipe these tears of regret
pieces of us are now just crumbs
in love’s symphony one can’t forget

When tomorrow comes
I will stand at the crosswalk of change
inhale the day deeply into my lungs
this melody in my head, I must rearrange

When tomorrow comes
will the songs of us gently fade
composing ballads in a new tongue
for all that was lost, a final serenade

When tomorrow comes
I will wipe these tears of regret
tilt my face toward the rising sun
moving forward, my heart on reset

When tomorrow comes
When tomorrow comes
When tomorrow comes

What's Going On? Hosted by Mary
using a line from "Do You Hear the People Sing"
I have chosen "When tomorrow comes"

  2. I love that you have written a song in response to Mary’s prompt, Truedessa, and the repetition and rhyme are so effective. These lines stood out for me:
    ‘When tomorrow comes
will the songs of us gently fade
composing ballads in a new tongue
for all that was lost, a final serenade’.

  3. Hope lives today, wishing it becomes the reality of tomorrow. I hear you, but let's give that hope a helping hand... A lovely poem!

  4. A melancholy poem, Truedessa. Hope the sadness is not too overwhelming and that more and more the sun will peek through.

  7. "for all that was lost, a final serenade" I am moved by the sense of loss in this poem. Tomorrow brings hope, but also "the songs of us gently fade."
