Mending Hearts

Today, hurting hearts need mending
who can heal what is torn apart
pain seems to be never-ending
today, hurting hearts need mending
brokenness needs gentle tending
kindness a loving place to start
today, hurting hearts need mending
who can heal what is torn apart

Bring Me a Spring Day

Bring me a blossoming spring day
fill life with sunlight, warmth and ease
melt all winter's harshness away
bring me a blossoming spring day
blue sky and creamy clouds on display
show me signs of hope, flowers and trees
bring me a blossoming spring day
fill life with sunlight, warmth and ease

Some Wild Dream

The Book of Bird Poems
Swift by Your Side
by Dom Conlon

circle as you sleep my love
and drift upon your dreams
ruling from the clouds, my love
is simpler than it seems

We first met with broken wings
it all seemed like some wild dream
through the misty haze of night
we sang our songs of yearnings
soaring beyond wispy clouds
resting in the wings of my beloved
exploring different hues of blue
flapping with earnest intentions
riding the thermals high above
"circle as you sleep my love"

you the majestic eagle of birds
me the mystical queen wren
we had little earthly wealth
but our hearts were minted
and the air we breathed free
forming poetic word scenes
letting poetry calm the night
no one bothered to inquire why
nestled in branches of green
"and drift upon your dreams"

in your dark eyes, unsung beauty
connecting two kindred souls
melodic warbles, rapid trills
your endearing sounds of joy
the drumming of fragile hearts
no longer feeling unloved
whether you be eagle or wren
chasing that glorious yellow sun
breathless whispers of heaven
we are the songs we sing of
"ruling from the clouds, my love"

our wings are now battered
from the storms that we endured
you the eagle needed to be free
and me being weaker let you go
but, I remember the time we shared
I still gaze up into skies and dream
my wings show signs of wear and tear
the journey swiftly coming full circle
drifting off into silvery moonbeams
"its simpler than it seems"

The form consists of four borrowed lines from your poem (the cabreza)  of choice and four stanzas of ten lines where the last line of each stanza is a line from the cabreza. There is no requirement on the meter other than it should not be too different from the borrowed poem. There is only one other requirement and that is that in the glosa line 6 and 9 should rhyme with the borrowed line.

This was a difficult form - I Have been reading "The Book of Bird Poems" and stumbled across a poem that seemed to speak to me.  I hope you enjoyed it.  I highly recommend this book to those bird lovers out there.

January's Snowy Imprints

The fresh fallen snow brightens
up the dark grey vista of morning
heavy branches bow in quietness

transformation on a January day
from the bitter cold bareness
to winters warm robe of white

beyond the trees a small band of deer
wandering across the pristine landscape
precision and grace in their movement

leaving tracks connected in the journey
nibbling on emerald green arborvitaes
the only sound is the whisper of the wind

I watch in stillness from the warmth inside
dreaming of making my own imprints
on that wondrous canvas of white

putting on my coat, hat, gloves and boots
venturing outside I lay under blue sky
and make snow angels just for today….

Trains, Rain and Refrains

Clickety-clack goes a distance train
pondering where the rail tracks lead
anticipating the early morning rain

I want to pen a bluesy quatrain
soulful lyrics circulate in my head
clickety-clack goes a distance train

gray skies outside the window pane
drifting into a lucid dream in my bed
anticipating the early morning rain

concentrating on rhythmic refrains
there is much that needs to be said
clickety-clack goes a distance train

wishing I could see you once again
so many lines crossed and misread
anticipating the early morning rain

melancholy songs are hard to contain
how many tears must one shed
clickety-clack goes a distance train
anticipating the early morning rain

Letting Go

It’s never easy letting go
sometimes the process is slow
but, it’s the only way to grow

I don’t really know where to begin
so, I write intentions on birch skin
the wind suddenly begins to spin

Carefully, I fold my precious notes
a squirrel scampers near a tall oak
making my way down a snowy slope

Standing at the water edge
I make a sacred pledge
watching a dog play fetch

I gently thump, drum in hand
the birds seem to understand
as the universe quietly expands

offering my intentions to the flame
there are new dreams, I wish to claim
letting go, is not easy, I exclaim

A to Z and Everything in Between

A new day begins
Beautiful was last night’s dream
Chasing butterflies in a field
Daffodils and tulips in full bloom
Egrets wading in a pond nearby
Feathered creatures flutter around
Gone are any lingering worries
Harmony circulates the air
I wander in an enchanted realm
Just enjoying nature’s beauty
Knowing this is a special sanctuary
Light embraces me with warmth
Memories are precious treasures
Now is the moment to live to the fullest
Once, again in slumber I think of you
Poetry connects heaven and earth
Quiet are my words, loud are my thoughts
Romantic sonnets made my heart quiver
Songs that touch me play on repeat
Time is elusive always pursuing it
Visions of us flash before my eyes
Willows always weep and so do I
Xtra care needed to heal a heart
Yearning to see you once again
Zhoosh, my hopes disappear

Things I'll Remember

I hope to remember happy memories
be filled with positive energies
recalling nature and all its splendor
touching my deepest heart center

turning the page into the new year
grateful for life and just being here
gazing upon January’s full wolf moon
will my dreams once again be in tune

at night before I close my eyes
I think of the last piece of blue sky
whispering a prayer into the night
that I will see the morning light

drifting into the unknown realm
on this star-ship who is at the helm
guiding me in my deepest slumber
imagination awakens full of wonder

In the morning what will I remember
will dreams fade in last night’s embers
recalling fragments throughout the day
rays of light let me know all is okay
