Trains, Rain and Refrains

Courtesy of Pixabay

Clickety-clack goes a distance train
pondering where the rail tracks lead
anticipating the early morning rain

I want to pen a bluesy quatrain
soulful lyrics circulate in my head
clickety-clack goes a distance train

gray skies outside the window pane
drifting into a lucid dream in my bed
anticipating the early morning rain

concentrating on rhythmic refrains
there is much that needs to be said
clickety-clack goes a distance train

wishing I could see you once again
so many lines crossed and misread
anticipating the early morning rain

melancholy songs are hard to contain
how many tears must one shed
clickety-clack goes a distance train
anticipating the early morning rain

Barefoot in the Rain

Free Barefoot Feet photo and picture

Have you ever walked in the rain
feeling pain
Would you wish those gray clouds away
for today
Could you sing songs of summer fun
on the run

dreaming of you and the sun
drying salty tears from my eyes
loving you is hard to deny
feeling pain, for today, on the run

A Single Red Rose

Courtesy of Pixabay

"To her,  death is quite romantic".  Lily has seen her share of farewells, pruning the rosebushes on Cemetery Hill.  Here they gather in their mourning clothes.  Wearing sunglasses to hide their mist filled eyes. A griever prays his lover will make it safely to the other side, of now. Poetry flows from the tongue of loss. A song occasionally,  can be heard whispering through the willow boughs.  Fresh flowers adorn the site. The heavenly scent drifts to the living.  To her,  it is beautiful when a single red rose falls, a sign of enduring love.  Lily searches the sky wiping her tears while, listening to the sweet refrain of the morning rain.

Finding Beauty

Today, I wonder, where is beauty

my heart heavy as the autumn rain

wet maple leaves clinging to my feet

watching wild geese in formation

pondering their final destination

they care not about the gray skies

Today, I wonder where is beauty

my soul releases a  mournful sigh

creator won't you send me a sign

watching the clouds shape shifting

noticing the phoenix's fiery struggle

breaking through the day's darkness

Today, I wonder where is beauty

my eyes hoping to catch a glimpse

of the peaceful blue heron in flight

In silence,  waiting, waiting

waiting, for a sign from the heavens

standing soaking wet

a baptism of rain

cleansing

Today, I wonder where is beauty

finding it, unspoiled  on

white flapping wings,  descending from the sky

as the sun began to shine

collateral beauty

Darker Shade of Blue

courtesy of Pixabay

I am a darker shade of blue
fall is losing it's vibrant hue
where has precious time gone
slipping away with each dawn

is there hope for you and I
some days I just want to cry
would you feel my growing pain
in remnants of autumn's rain

reflective puddles form at our feet
how can love be so bittersweet
our souls searching for that dream
would our hearts pause in midstream

drenched in fragile earthly skin
can healing waters be felt within
sing to me, of  November's rhyme
kiss my lips, while there's still time

tell me true, what do your eyes see
why does this cloud hover over me
sunny days are somewhere in the sky
let's spread our wings and simply fly

And the Rain Came Singing a Refrain

Quickly opening my sky blue umbrella
hopscotching through newly formed
puddles...

dashing for the car my heart quickens
raindrops blur my vision...

still I wonder who'll stop the rain
as the radio softly plays the repeating refrain

sometimes heaven cries and so do I
