Letting Go

It’s never easy letting go
sometimes the process is slow
but, it’s the only way to grow

I don’t really know where to begin
so, I write intentions on birch skin
the wind suddenly begins to spin

Carefully, I fold my precious notes
a squirrel scampers near a tall oak
making my way down a snowy slope

Standing at the water edge
I make a sacred pledge
watching a dog play fetch

I gently thump, drum in hand
the birds seem to understand
as the universe quietly expands

offering my intentions to the flame
there are new dreams, I wish to claim
letting go, is not easy, I exclaim

I went to a fire ceremony and this poem
was born from it.

  2. The rhyme helps to give the beat of the drum. I can picture the birch skin and the flame. What a wonderful "letting go" ceremony!

  3. I like the idea of writing on birch bark!! And the drumming, which the birds understand. I would love to go to a fire ceremony. I did, once, years ago. It was powerful.

    1. Hi Sherry, the birds always seem to understand. Once, I was drumming outside and there had to be 100 sparrows in the tree listening and watching.

  4. The rhythm and rhyme of this poem helps with the message. And so true that letting go is one of the ways that can help a person grow, as hard as it is to let go sometime. I think a fire ceremony must be a wonderful experience!

    1. Mary, it is very hard to let go when ones heart isn't ready for the release. A fire ceremony is quite an amazing and humbling experience.
