Concert of Birds

Courtesy of Pixabay

On a spring day enjoying a concert of birds
listening to the soft coo-coo of Mourning Doves
the tap tap tap tap of a Downy Woodpecker
a duet between Song and House Sparrows
flashing in sunlight an American goldfinch
nesting in the cattails Red-winged blackbirds
listening to the raspy notes of European Starlings
singing its repertoire of songs a Northern Mockingbird
rejoicing in the melody of a warm spring day

writing poetry from a list

author's note:  I use the Cornell University Merlin App to identify bird sounds.  The birds included in my list poem are the birds I recorded yesterday.

Thank you for reading

  1. It's great to be able to have those sounds familiar to you. It takes a lifetime to to know them otherwise. Wonderful write, True, love it!

  3. I love all those images, and I use the same app to identify the birds... I also use an app to identify flowers...here the bird song I hear the most would be the european black-bird....

    1. Bjorn the app is a great tool to help identify birds that I am not familiar with in the area. The ones that are here most of the time I know without the app. It's fun to come across a rare sighting.

  4. What a wonderful concert that must have been! Those bird apps are amazing! How awesome to see and hear so many varieties. I read that 50% of birds have been lost, a very sad result of climate change and over population.

  10. We have some really annoying bird song in the early mornings here. They truly are an alarm clock for us (or more for our cats, who then wake us!). Nicely written Truedessa ๐Ÿ‘
