Driving home late under the hunter’s moon navigating the mountain highway. Headlights flickering through the darkness. The wind shifting as decaying leaves fall from the semi-bare trees. A pair of glowing orbs pierce through the darkness. Time seems to slow down as an outline comes into view. A deer stands in total stillness, my heart pounds.
I silently pray don’t do it. It’s me, asphalt and the deer as I slow down. Suddenly, in a flash he retreats to the woods vanishing into the tree lines. I breathe a sigh of relief as time resumes at a normal pace.

Whether it’s the light of October’s Full Moon, or the fright of Halloween, let’s testify! Write a haibun that alludes to either the Hunter’s Moon or Halloween

Beautifully written - a moment in time remembered but also now, regeneration - Jae
ReplyDeleteLiving where I do, deer darting out into streets is a huge hazard for human and animal. I love seeing deer .. there are many simply roaming my neighborhood. I cannot imagine hitting one with my car. Your Haibun hit close to home, True. Well done.
ReplyDeleteGlad the deer retreated and you could breathe sigh of relief!
