Self-Portrait, Francis Bacon |
Will I be remembered
through the hands of time
Will you see me as I see myself
a man captured in the torments of life
Will you say I was a prisoner of my own mind
expressing my
world as seen through dark eyes
Will you feel my anguish, reflections of twisted emotions
through the camera lens,
black and white I remain for all time
But, will I be remembered...

"Will I be remembered..." a poignant refrain. I ask myself the same thing on a regular basis. "Will I?" such a human hope and so wonderfully caught and held in this poem. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteThank you Julie for your lovely words..
DeleteThoughtful poem, good questions to inspire creativity.
ReplyDeleteThanks Humbird...
DeleteHopefully yes even in black & white ~ Wishing you Happy New Year ~
ReplyDeleteCheers ~
Hopefully, that is true..Happy New Year!
Deletethat first line draws us in so effectively, and you maintain the questioning energy throughout each verse ~
ReplyDeletegrapeling, thanks for reading..
DeleteIndeed, that is the question isn't it? To be remembered in some way, and hopefully by name, not by some faded image of someone that nobody remembers. I like the usage of a question repeated at beginning and end, it enhances the feel of the poem. Well penned.
ReplyDeleteGinny, that is so true to be remembered by name would be a great gift.
DeleteThe question is of so much importance.. but sometimes it should be asked ... for what will I be remembered... ? It's easy to be remembered... to some extent... Have a great new year.
ReplyDeleteBjorn, I hope I would be remembered as a dreamer with a vision and perhaps, for some of my poetry. Happy New Year!
DeleteSaid with such poignant essence. And the format of the poem itself is very pleasing to the eye.
ReplyDeleteThank you Helena..
DeleteI think many of us have this same question. I know I do. I hope I am remembered for good, rather than for ill. A thoughtful end-of-year post.
ReplyDeleteMary,
DeleteI think you will be remembered for your kind words and thoughtfulness.
"Will I be remembered?"......... what we all wonder. Good one!
ReplyDeleteHi Sherry,
DeleteI guess it is the question that lingers in all of our minds..will we be remembered and how will we be remembered?
Excellent! Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteThank you Kathe, much appreciated..
DeleteUsually we are remembered for the little fun things
ReplyDeleteThat few know in our wings
Even in black and white
I'm sure many are thought of as thoughts take flight
some fun things under the sun
Deletetwo light hearted fools on the run
making their way toward the light
sailing their ship through the night
Have a blessed and happy 2014......................you will be remembered through your words:)
ReplyDeleteMay you too have a blessed and happy New Year..thank you for your support..
DeleteI saw the darkness in this photo too Truedessa and think that he quite possibly was hiding something in his life & by hiding something I don't mean his face with the camera! I too hope that when my time is done on this earth that people will think of me again :-)
ReplyDeleteHi Kathrine,
DeletePerhaps, you are right I've seen some of his artwork and you can see some conflicts with emotions in his work. I guess we can say he has been remembered. I think we all wish to be remembered.
Happy New Year..
Remembered forever, I'm sure..you captured the yearning so well...art and suffering... hand in hand...
ReplyDeleteLyn, Thank you and sometimes art conveys the artists pain.
Deletewe will..even if by just a few...
ReplyDeletewhat we will be remembered for though
that all depends on what we are willing
to show....smiles.
Brian,
DeleteI hope we all are remembered in some small way.
I suppose being remembered translates to "did I mean anything to anybody?" Hopefully, it's true...even if only by a few...
ReplyDeleteHmm, that is true as well..I certainly hope we touched
Deletea few lives in our journey.
Very well penned. I would like to think I'd be remembered outwith photographs too......
ReplyDeleteThank you Helena..
DeleteI like to think we will live on in the memory of others...
ReplyDeleteI like that thought Tess...
DeleteA good question. Will we be remembered and for what?
ReplyDeleteInteresting to ponder this question...
DeleteThe answer is 'yes' ... And reinforces why stories, writing, photos are such great leave-behinds! Happy New Year.
ReplyDeleteHelen,
DeleteThat is true we leave a bit of ourselves behind sort of a legacy with our own words. Happy New Year..
"Will I be remembered?"- That is such a powerful question. Tender and quite agonizing. Beautifully penned.
