In my journey I came upon a tree
a noble oak , tis king of the green world
vast cosmic fortress of wisdom is he
a noble oak , tis king of the green world
vast cosmic fortress of wisdom is he
through
all
seasons he remains
a rare pearl
strong roots planted deep into the rich earth
branching out , needing space to freely breathe
blossoming spring buds, welcoming new birth
summer poets dream under a green wreathe
strong roots planted deep into the rich earth
branching out , needing space to freely breathe
blossoming spring buds, welcoming new birth
summer poets dream under a green wreathe
fall
leaves
, wearing
a crown of reddish
gold
in the cold winter snow , he bares his soul
carving words in his bark, stories untold
quenching hungry thirst as thunderstorms roll
visitors come and rest their weary feet
listening to his songs, catching each beat
in the cold winter snow , he bares his soul
carving words in his bark, stories untold
quenching hungry thirst as thunderstorms roll
visitors come and rest their weary feet
listening to his songs, catching each beat

So beautiful, and noble, that old oak! We have them in our yards, on this street, breathing peace down on us through the seasons, and blessing us with his leaves.
ReplyDeleteThey are a very strong tree offering much to the landscape.
DeleteHe bares his soul - that's so very true!
ReplyDeleteI think I agree..
Deletelovely...there is nothing lovely as a tree...
ReplyDeleteand if i was a tree, i would want to be one that kids played on
and people sat under to enjoy the shade...and i might even let them
carve a name in me, so they come back to see me years later...
smiles.
I image a swing hanging from a sturdy limb..with a gentle push reaching for the sky..all things are possible..
DeleteSweet!
ReplyDeletethank you..
DeleteThis poem makes me feel very restful..it is a wonderful read for mid-winter, Truedessa.
ReplyDeleteThanks Mary, I sure wish spring would arrive as winter has been long.
DeleteStanding tall though every season, changing over and over. One has to be mighty indeed. A peaceful place to rest ones head too.
ReplyDeleteI agree...a great place to rest my weary head and dream for a bit as I cloud watch...
DeleteI love this poem and the image of the tree in all seasons. I am drawn to trees and the strength I feel around them....your words ring so true for me...
ReplyDelete'strong roots planted deep into the rich earth

Thanks Donna, I am happy the tree spoke to you..
DeleteThe ending couplet is my favorite ~ I can't wait for spring now to blossom forth ~
ReplyDeleteGrace
Oh sweet spring I hope it arrives soon..
DeleteI love trees! We don't have oaks in Australia (unless imported, in botanical gardens) but I can imagine their majesty and protective feel.
ReplyDeleteThanks Rosemary, I could get lost in a botanical garden.
DeleteYour words nicely honor the beautiful 4-Season image.
ReplyDeleteThanks Kim
DeleteI enjoyed the serene tone of your poem as well as the way you showed that beautiful oak through the four seasons.
ReplyDeleteGabriella thanks I quietly wait for the season to change. As, spring pushes through the frozen earth and thaws the landscape.
DeleteSweet sonnet of seasonal cycles!
ReplyDeleteThanks Susan..
Deletethe bareness of the soul during winter was what touched me most here... it's a good metaphor for the winters in our lives as well
ReplyDeleteThat is true..it takes courage to bare ones soul..
DeleteTrees are wonderful, but among the trees the oaks are particularly lovely... We have an oak in our garden..
ReplyDeleteBjorn, There are so many wonderful trees, but this tree is a very strong tree with deep roots.
DeleteLuv the seasonal phases in your poem and your choice of image to compliment
ReplyDeleteMuch love...
Thank you Gillena
Deletewishing you peace and light...
Whoever that friend of yours, surely he / she will get inspired by this. I, too, was inspired by your beautiful sonnet, Truedesa. A cheerful & tender piece. Thank you!

Always so nice when you visit. If I can spread some inspiration then writing the poem was well worth the effort. Thank you..
Deletehave a great day!
Very beautiful poem, Truedessa. We could all take lessons from the Oak, couldn't we?
ReplyDeleteSome trees are definitely worth listening to..
DeleteOh to know what a tree thinks and feels - thank you for letting us in ;)
ReplyDeleteAh, we can all hear their messages if we only listen..thanks :)
DeleteI'm all smiles now. And in case you missed me... I'm back. I'm not a fan of winter. Spring is my all-time favorite.
ReplyDeleteA smiling blue guy makes me think of sunny skies. I noticed you were back ready to push forth in the arms of spring.
DeleteThis is wonderful, and I love the imagery of a red-gold crown of leaves. Also, let us not forget the noble king who bears fruit and offers of himself not just shade but food for weary travelers. Picking an apple from the apple tree in the middle of a game of tag was always a cherished childhood memory.
ReplyDeleteThe noble king who wears a crown. An oak trees has acorns which they willingly share as they drop some here and there. The little critters eagerly eat them. Oh, I do enjoy that crunch from an apple
Deletestraight from the tree.
What a lucky friend to have such a beautiful sonnet dedicated to him/her.
ReplyDeleteI love the images here and the poetic flow. Great poem!

ReplyDeleteI try, I guess there is always room for improvement, but I wrote it as I felt it. thanks!
DeleteThe noble oak had always been revered. It is in the forefront among the big trees to be written about and commented. You've very wonderfully kept that tradition here, Truedessa!
ReplyDeleteHank
Thank Hank..It is a noble tree..I am more of a weeping willow, but it is good to know that there are strong oaks we can lean on in the journey.
