The date was special February 2nd
she too wanted to play the drums
the beat of her heart beckoned
as she longed to hear his hums
to move to the rhythm of his soul
fingering the stick, lightning strikes
losing control to
his rock n roll
ratatat, adrenaline
quickly spikes
filling the room with a joyous sound
exploring textures with each brush
transcending time, cymbals pound
breaking barriers, waters rush
flood of emotions fills the room
drowning in the depth of each beat
becoming the music with each boom
in tune with one another they meet

nice....my college roommate was a drummer....we had live music every week in our basement...and sometimes we played....so drums were a big part of my life for several years there...ha...love the rhythm of them though...
ReplyDeleteThere is something magical when you catch that beat. I play a simple hoop drum nothing quite as elaborate as this kit. But, I do love the rhythm.
DeleteMoving to the rhythm of his soul......in tune with one another......this is wonderful to read - the tempo of the poem felt as quick as a drumbeat - a great read!
ReplyDeleteThanks Sherry, this artwork just jumped out at me.
DeleteYou brought the beats to life... drums are def the foundation to music: the emotion they exude is unmatched... not to mention they're just awesome. I wanted to play drums for awhile in my teens - changed my mind and took up ukulele... smiles
ReplyDeleteI agree drums are often the heartbeat of music. Ukulele??? I would like to hear that some time...smiles..
DeleteI think getting into that rhythm - absorbed in the beat.. A dream for the drummer,, not always for the roommates or parents.
ReplyDeleteThat is true Bjorn I am sure the drummer gets lost in the rhythm and perhaps, just enjoys the moment. Maybe, not so good for those wanting to sleep.
Deletenothing better than to becoming one in that beat and just forget everything around you..smiles
ReplyDeleteI agree...
DeleteHaha! Beautifully done! As with the band, so too with these two!
ReplyDeleteThanks Susan, this was fun to write..
DeleteNow that is a true musician!
ReplyDeleteA musician who knows hold to keep time with the beat...
DeleteI love the beat & musical verses with each boom & ratatat of drums ~
ReplyDeleteHope your Feb is special Truedessa ~
Thanks Grace..we shall see how Feb plays out...
DeleteI wondered if anyone would use this sketch. Smiles. This seems to build up to a romantic crescendo when 'in tune with one another they meet.'
ReplyDeleteSmiling..that is does Mary...
DeleteExperienced joyous music thanks to your lovely words :)
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome to the music..glad you enjoyed the sound..
DeleteFinding the other is very much like finding someone with whom you play in unison, following the same beat. I like that!
ReplyDeleteThanks Gabriella for the prompt, so many interesting pieces of artwork.
DeleteLovely! To be lost in those beats and finding one another sounds wonderful. :-)
ReplyDeleteIt is nice to let the music flow with each beat.
DeleteGreat poem. It took me back to my young days when my next door neighbor practiced his drums and my cousins, who lived in the apartment downstairs, were obsessed with drumming too. My house was always full of the percussion, the passion, the beat of drums. I loved it.
ReplyDeleteThanks Myrna..there is something exciting about drums.
DeleteMeeting the aspiration of many! One can really appreciate the sounds of drums on a solo basis! Great lines Truedessa!

Hi Hank,
DeleteTo surround ones life with music is beautiful...
A beat that will carry on long after the beating is through, in tune and letting the music flow within and without.
ReplyDeleteIn tune is a beautiful gift in the language of music.
DeleteFrom our heart to everything else in motion, it's the beat, the beat that sets the rhythm, pace, & emotion of any event. Music is the universal language & drum beats, I suspect eclipse the universal, shaping the cosmic.
ReplyDeleteMusic is indeed universal it can transcend many barriers in life and the world as a whole. The beat of life is within us.
DeleteWriting this to a meter worked so well for the subject. I like to tune into the percussion in any type of band/orchestra. It's in our bodies, that beat.
ReplyDeleteWe each have an internal drum which is our heart we just need to follow its beat.
DeleteI love this! Great share!
ReplyDeleteThank you ayala
DeleteYour poem's vital 'ratatat' marching through all poem! Very energetic and uplifting!
ReplyDeleteThanks humbird..I do enjoy the beat of the drums
DeleteI loved the music in this piece ... beautiful write :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you for hearing the beat..
