Gone Fishing!

ancestors carved signs
messages left in stone walls
from water springs life
cast your net so you might grow
catching fish in the deep end
~
pictures etched in stone
mossy shoreline shadows dance
fishing for knowledge
cloudy skies, warm gentle rain
revealing a rainbow trout
~
ancient trail marker
mysterious fishing hole
cast your hook and line
walk on the pathway of bears
sharing your catch with mankind
~
paddling together
desire fills our emptiness
casting dark shadows
we rest by the crooked tree
hungry feeding our bellies

  1. I know the signs carved, there are some really impressive carvings on the rocks here in Sweden, and yes a lot about fishing and hunting... Maybe it's a celebration.

    1. I believe they are trail markers, perhaps this was a place to make camp as there were plenty of fish to feed the tribe. I hear it still has fish today.

  2. I think that paddling together holds the key to this. And the acknowledgement of the wisdom of those that have come before us. Things change of course and the fishing hole may be no good, but that is the progression of wisdom. Its so cool to see those messages left from before though. What they thought was important.

    1. I think life is about paddling together riding through the currents of life..sometimes we have a gentle ride and sometimes the water can be rough. I time when messages were important enough to carve in stone.

  3. Carvings can sure make one think as in the sink. Bait the hook and hope for the best, hopefully a boot isn't reeled in though lol

    1. Bait the hook and cast out the line..you never know what you will catch..hopefully, not a boot but a giant pike..or rainbow trout to feed that hungry belly.

  7. Beautiful, Truedessa, I especially like envisioning walking on the pathways of bears.....we have petroglyphs here in my town too, fish carved on the rock walls.......very cool to take kids there and explain they were carved a thousand years ago, or more.

  9. Fish food for thought, for knowledge, for wildlife, for connection, for forgiveness ...for fullness in time. Lovely and thought provoking. Where is the picture from?

  10. Life was so much simpler then, wasn't it?

    1. I would imagine it was simpler...just basic survival back then..I guess today we would use cell phones and not take the time to carve a message.

  11. I love seeing old carvings/etchings and trying to form a story in my head - how it got there. What they were trying to say. If they knew one day someone like me might see it.

    1. ha - I wonder what they thought as they left their mark in the landscape. I am sure they did not envision the world as it is today.

  13. There is nothing more satisfying than getting away and finding our past in the wild places, breathing in, watching life, listening to the real world as we walk in the past.
