Autumn's Song

Courtesy of Pixabay

We gather under a sprawling oak
with the spirit of buffalo, deer and elk
a song in our drums, hope in our hearts

what do you wish to harvest in autumn

the fall equinox,  a time of alignment
contemplating what no longer serves
struggling between darkness and light

what bulbs of thought do you wish to plant

tinted leaves gently fall to autumn's song
on the branch of transformation
a choir of tree sparrows sit
where have all the red breasted robins gone

what poems will you write under starlight

Orion the hunter watches from the sky
a string of pearls and a mighty sword
will he ever conquer the mystical beast

what ancient songs will your tongue chant

around the roaring flame, we beat as one
spirit of the fire carry me to my home
spirit of the wind carry me to my home
spirit of the water carry me to my home

what dreams do you wish to evolve

 somewhere beyond the wondrous stars
there's a dream seed that burns in the night
growing wings, lifting off into flight

Thank you for visiting

may you find peace in a season of change

  1. You have outdone yourself with this poem. Such wonderful imagery. I love the refrain between the stanzas. A truly wonderful poem! My new favourite.

  2. I love the chant-like form of this poem, and the idea of a 'dream seed' taking flight. It's worth bearing in mind as the nights get shorter, that only we can keep our dreams alive!

    1. That is true Ingrid, as long as we can dream we have possibilities.

  5. Hi Truedessa, You have really done a fine job of evoking autumn, though it has come altogether too soon for me. I love thinking about the spirit of the fire, wind, water.....and their roles in the autumn season!
