You and I shared a
dream
under wondrous moonbeams
there was magic in your eyes
darkness lifted with the sunrise
I can't sleep
tonight
it's three-twenty two
I ain't got much to do
lying here, dreaming of you
sometimes passion's flame
burns you into the night
love is a dangerous game
I'm a sentimental
fool
and life can be cruel
wondering where you are
wishing upon a distant star
there's poetry stirring within
that's where the music begins
I can't sleep
tonight
it's three-twenty two
I ain't got much to do
lying here, dreaming of you
life often weaves new rhymes
traveling the blue waves of time
wishing can't make you mine
but, in dreams our hearts align
I'm a sentimental
fool
and life can be cruel
sometimes passion's flame
burns you into the night
love is a dangerous game

Thank you for visiting
I couldn't sleep the other night
and this hook was playing in my head.
So, here you go the musing of my mind
Some of my most creative inspiration happens during dreams!! And why I keep a notepad on the bedside table. I love your poem, full of rhythm and the repetition works beautifully.
ReplyDeleteThank you Helen, I too keep a dream journal on my nightstand. I often find myself scribbling lines in the night.
DeleteTruedessa, I also like the way you used repetition in here. You are not the only one who is happy to see an old love in dreams who is no longer in your waking world. The exact time in here draws the reader closer.
ReplyDeleteThanks, it seems the time is relevant.
DeleteThis poem would be awesome set to music. Some lost loves live in the heart forever. There is one living in mine.
ReplyDeleteI know you miss your friend. He is with you in spirit.
Deletesometimes passion's flame
ReplyDeleteburns you into the night
love is a dangerous game
Love can be lethal if not treated well. It can easily get into entanglements as emotions are involved. Well said True!
Hank
True Hank! Love is fragile and bittersweet
Delete3:22 rocks, and you make it really sing here. Thanks.
ReplyDelete3:22 a sleepless night…
DeleteI think it would make an excellent song!
ReplyDeleteThank you Alex!
DeleteThis would make a fine song: 3am yearnings worthy of being set to music, as others have noted!
ReplyDeleteThe magic hour 3:00 am that when ghosts come calling.
DeleteMany nights have had me in this place. You sing of it well, and really that whole feeling is a hook of a chorus, of a line, that we remember and can't let go of. Many are the poems I've had come to me at 3 a.m. so I suppose it's worth the burning.
ReplyDeleteI agree , it’s worth the burning if something constructive comes from it.
DeleteThose sleepless nights only encourage our obsessive thoughts. Hopefully writing about it helps.
ReplyDeleteYes, thoughts like to manifest during the night. But, it seems to stir creativity in the restlessness.
DeleteThe repetition works beautifully. It would make a lovely song.
ReplyDeleteThank you so kind of you to say
DeleteIt was playing in your head, wanting to be written! ;-)
ReplyDeleteThat is did, insomnia can be productive
DeleteWell written True! Dreams are marvelously mysterious. I have gained inspiration at times, too often I am left befuddled and wondering. I also suffer from night terrors, have all my life - just dreamless horror. I have suffered from insomnia most of my late adult life. I believe the result of my playing for years in bands, performing until the wee hours of the morning. 👍🏼
ReplyDeleteThanks Rob, I am a big dreamer sometimes they play out like a featured film of some sorts. Night terrors are not fun. Those are the type of dreams I would rather not have.
DeleteWishing you peaceful dreams my friend.
