Spinning, Molding, Shaping

The Sunday Muse

These hands caked in moist clay
what will they form on a potter's wheel
spinning
  molding
    shaping

it may take a lifetime to discover a work of art
for each day we are sculpted in subtle ways

what tools will you use to sharpen the details
of life, will it be birdsong and yellow daffodils
skies of silver and blue

will water flow in the river of thoughts
creating an emerging vessel of being

creativity takes time and imagination
a heart that is stronger than play-doh

a clay heart may have cracks but, the
cracks remind us that we have lived
and loved...

its not so much the finished pottery
as it is the space that fills it

what will you fill yours with

poetry
songs
love
compassion
calmness
peace

author's note:  I live in the U.S.
and have been studying dream-work
for many years. I am on a quest for
the greater meaning of life, I am not
sure it will ever be found.

  1. Such a beautiful poem. I love the question: what will we fill our vessels with? And the things you mention: all the important things. Humanity seems to learn the meaning of life the hard way. We're a long way from wisdom at the moment.

  8. I would like to answer all your questions with "YES". A nice write, my muse wouldn't be so clever with you prompt pick. Great.
After a loooonnngg while one hopefully can decide that he/she is on the 'greatest' meaning of life. Helen Ready, "Is that all there is?"

Love your questioning the very basic of creativity. One is less likely to fail if the the reason behind it is known. You have the the inclination to question which others take for granted. Thanks True for being there to share and to relate for many years before. Stay safe Ma'am, yes!

  12. Wonderful concept of each of us shaping our own vessels as we go. Even those of us whose clay was mashed and burned, may refashion with care and spirit.

    1. There is hope something new can be reshaped after the mashing and healing somehow starts to take hold.

      Peace and renewal….
