The Sunday Muse |
These hands caked in moist clay
what will they form on a potter's wheel
spinning
molding
shaping
it may take a lifetime to discover a work of art
for each day we are sculpted in subtle ways
what tools will you use to sharpen the details
of life, will it be birdsong and yellow daffodils
skies of silver and blue
will water flow in the river of thoughts
creating an emerging vessel of being
creativity takes time and imagination
a heart that is stronger than play-doh
a clay heart may have cracks but, the
cracks remind us that we have lived
and loved...
its not so much the finished pottery
as it is the space that fills it
what will you fill yours with
poetry
songs
love
compassion
calmness
peace

author's note: I live in the U.S.
and have been studying dream-work
for many years. I am on a quest for
the greater meaning of life, I am not
sure it will ever be found.
Such a beautiful poem. I love the question: what will we fill our vessels with? And the things you mention: all the important things. Humanity seems to learn the meaning of life the hard way. We're a long way from wisdom at the moment.
ReplyDeleteThank you my friend. I am sure your vessel will be filled with your deep love for the planet.
DeleteI love the idea of having a Playdoh heart. :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful:
“birdsong and yellow daffodils
skies of silver and blue”
Thank you, a Play-doh heart that can be remolded...
DeleteSuch lovely lines filled with wisdom. I love the message it holds! Thank you for joining us this week Truedessa.
ReplyDeleteThank you Carrie, I had to come out to join the celebration and support the community.
DeleteYes indeed Trudessa
ReplyDelete"for each day we are sculpted in subtle ways"
Much love...
Sculpting each day, hopefully, in a good way.
DeleteMuch love back...
Your poem demands the reader look inside, answer the questions you ask … quite beautifully.
ReplyDeleteHelen, Thank you I am sure yours would be filled with wonderful life memories.
Delete"I am on a quest for the greater meaning of life, I am not sure it will ever be found." Yep.
ReplyDeleteBut, something keeps us searching....
DeleteGood luck with that search!
ReplyDeleteThanks Bev its a never ending search filled with optical illusions
DeleteI would like to answer all your questions with "YES". A nice write, my muse wouldn't be so clever with you prompt pick. Great.
ReplyDeleteAfter a loooonnngg while one hopefully can decide that he/she is on the 'greatest' meaning of life. Helen Ready, "Is that all there is?"
..
Hi Jim
DeletePerhaps, the secret is to enjoy each day in the journey, 🤔
its not so much the finished pottery
ReplyDeleteas it is the space that fills it
what will you fill yours with
Love your questioning the very basic of creativity. One is less likely to fail if the the reason behind it is known. You have the the inclination to question which others take for granted. Thanks True for being there to share and to relate for many years before. Stay safe Ma'am, yes!
Hank
Hi Hank, so nice to read your thoughts.
DeleteThank you too, my friend, I will always think of you as #1 at Pat’s place. It was a fun run
Excellent! We are like pottery, sculpted by life.
ReplyDeleteThat is very True, Alex! I hope you are well.
DeleteWhat a question to end on! Right now, filling mine with anxiety...but hopefully there will be better things to come.
ReplyDeleteI hope some calmness pours in, the world needs space filled with peace. Sigh
DeleteWonderful concept of each of us shaping our own vessels as we go. Even those of us whose clay was mashed and burned, may refashion with care and spirit.
ReplyDeleteThere is hope something new can be reshaped after the mashing and healing somehow starts to take hold.
DeletePeace and renewal….
"for each day we are sculpted in subtle ways"
ReplyDeleteSome days I feel the fear that there is too much sculpted away..
