Calm

Today, I woke up seeking calm
where do you find it, I wonder
is it found in the morning's rising sun
is it found in the robin redbreast's song
is it found in a field of wild dandelions
is it found in the sway of maple trees

Can you tell  me, where calm is

Today, I woke up seeking calm
where do you find it, I wonder
is it in the warmth of the noontime sun
is it in the turtle slowly making it's way
is it in the heron patiently seeking a meal
is it in the whispers of the birch trees

Can you tell me, where calm is

Today, I woke up seeking calm
where do you find it, I wonder
is it found in a tangerine and crimson sunset
is it found in the beat of my humble drum
is it found in the songs unsung in my heart
is it found in the beauty of magnolia trees

Can you tell me, where calm is

  2. I guess we can find it anywhere we look. Yes, while peeling that tangerine. (Or watching golf!)

  5. An interesting poem. The repetition adds a nice punch to the poem.

  6. Truedessa, you know where it is, by virtue of your questions and the beating of your heart. Such a beautiful poem. I think we wrote to this form last week. It works so well here.

  7. I like the repetition, Truedessa, like a mantra running through the poem, and I love all the places where calm can be found. We have a robin in our garden and he sang to me most of yesterday afternoon from a branch in the willow tree.

  8. Loving the repetition which adds a sense of calm rhythm to the poem. Serenity is indeed golden and best if experienced for a while each day. I especially love the idea of the birch trees here. For me, looking in to the stand of birch trees is a treat in an of itself....something about their bark has always been soothing to me. Many years ago, at Acadia National Park in Maine, we took a hike through a small forest of birch trees....it was at a time in the day when the sun was streaming through the tops of the trees and casting dancing shadows on the path...have never forgotten it.
