Where do you find kinship in your day
is it heard in the song of the mourning dove
is it heard in the song of the falling leaves
is it heard in the song of a moody blue jay
Where do you find kinship in your day
is it seen in the woolly caterpillar crossing your path
is it seen in the great blue heron that flies overhead
is it seen in the lone goose with a broken wing
Where do you find kinship in your day
do you smell it in the needles of tall pines
do you smell it in the cherry and apple blossoms
do you smell it in salty ocean waves
Where do you find kinship in your day
is it felt in the rain falling from the sky
is it felt in the sun that warms your face
is it felt in the wind blowing through your hair
Where do you find kinship in your day
is it tasted in a freshly picked orange
is it tasted in freshly picked berries
is it tasted in refreshing spring waters
Where do you find kinship in your day
do you find it in the smile of a passerby
do you find it in dog on your daily walk
do you find it in family and friends...

I feel refreshed just reading that! You brought the visuals alive with your words.
ReplyDeleteHi Alex, Glad you felt refreshed.
DeleteHow beautiful all the images are! That image of "the lone goose with a broken wing" will stay with me with a tear in my heart.
ReplyDeleteThat goose is special to me as I have been caring for her during the winter months bringing her food when none can be found. I definitely have formed a bond with her. She spends the cold winter months mostly by herself as all the others have migrated.
DeleteHow wonderful Truedessa!
DeleteYou have come up with so many examples of kinship we can find all around us. Well observed & written.
ReplyDeleteThanks Mary, there are so many possibilities to find kinship.
DeleteYes, you have the gift of kinship with all beings.........a dear friend, now in the spirit world, once told me he walked around saying a silent "I love you" to everything he saw: each bush and tree, each passing dog, every part of nature he passed, and he started feeling all of nature loving him back. A beautiful soul.
ReplyDeleteHi Sherry, thank you my friend. I love the message about your friend.
DeleteOh I love how you used all the senses and summed up all the possibilities of where you can find kinship
ReplyDeleteMarja, thank you for visiting and leaving a comment.
Delete"Where do you find kinship in your day"
ReplyDeleteI like this refrain linking all the senses and scenes in your poem. The answer to your refrain/riddle is, as you imply, most everywhere you can be outside. Lovely.
Yes, most everywhere outside you can find a sense of kinship with nature.
DeleteLove the visual imagery.
ReplyDeleteThanks Sandra - hope your week is going okay.
DeleteAaaah, words to make you think... I guess it is in awareness. Of every thing.... but you put it so much more beautifully
ReplyDeleteAwareness that is the key, I think sometimes we need to truly see
DeleteThis poem brought much needed light to my spirit today.
ReplyDeleteSo glad my words brought a bit of light ...
DeleteHave an excellent week and keep writing that wonderful verse. Cheers,
ReplyDeleteThis poem lightened my heart with all its possibilities. (Sara)
