Sitting on the lake shore
this warm spring day
there is a gentle breeze
I inhale, filling my lungs
with the fresh air of the
moment, exhaling winter's
bitterness
The geese are honking
pairing off establishing
nesting territory
In the distance a robin’s song
and a chickadee chorus
The smell of sage
sweet-grass and dried lavender
fill the air
Closing my eyes, I pick
up my drum offering a
song of hope and renewal
Thump, thump, thump
the rhythmic beat echoes
and my heart flutters along
with bird wings…
Chanting out songs of spring
my drum vibrates with each
syllable…
Where are you roots, look no further
than the giant budding trees…for they
know the beauty of growth…
Where are your dreams look no further
than you heart, for there is the
seed of possibility
Embrace the light of spring
if nature can start over
so might we humans
