Red robin came to sing one day
in grief, I wished he'd go away
covering my ears so not to hear
he just wanted to bring some cheer
my heart out of tune with the beat
wearily tapping my heavy feet
and there must be something wrong
in wanting to silence a birdsong
Writing a cover Poem at dVerse
inspired by the following:
A Minor Bird by Robert Frost
I have wished a bird would fly away,
And not sing by my house all day;
Have clapped my hands at him from the door
When it seemed as if I could bear no more.
The fault must partly have been in me.
The bird was not to blame for his key.
And of course there must be something wrong
In wanting to silence any song
And not sing by my house all day;
Have clapped my hands at him from the door
When it seemed as if I could bear no more.
The fault must partly have been in me.
The bird was not to blame for his key.
And of course there must be something wrong
In wanting to silence any song
a wonderful cover of the original. Love the line: "my heart out of tune with the beat"
ReplyDeleteThank you Bryan for an interesting prompt!
DeleteI love both the original poem and your response Truedessa ~ It is indeed a mournful song but well done ~
ReplyDeleteThanks Grace well I guess some songs can be melancholy
DeleteI love your poem, Truedessa. There are times, when in grief, one cannot bear the joy in birdsong.
ReplyDeleteSherry that is true as the heart is heavy
DeleteI like your take on Robert Frost's poem. Yours is a robin, and not wanting to be cheered from mourning. It goes farther than Frost's. The extension is great!
ReplyDeleteThanks, It was a fun prompt
DeleteLoved your version. Both really nice. Fascinating
ReplyDeleteThanks, it was fun to write with a bit of help from Mr. Frost
DeleteLove your extrapolation, despite finding comfort on dark days in bird song.
ReplyDeleteWell, sometimes we need a birdsong to perk us up!
DeleteEnjoyed your words but LOVE the house in your picture.
ReplyDeleteThat is Robert Frost's stone home in Vermont, it is very lovely and now a museum. His poetry hangs on the walls. I had a wonderful time there.
DeleteSometimes they can just annoy even as they try and bring joy. Send out a cat, fixes that lol
ReplyDeleteHaha I listen to birdsongs everyday, as mine always has her way!
DeleteI think yours is better!
ReplyDeleteDon't mind the birds unless it's the crack of dawn on a Saturday.
Thanks Alex you made me smile.
DeleteI love it! It makes me wonder what has the speaker so down. =)
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting it does leave a question?
DeleteIf it's not 3 AM in the morning I would know that I would be wrong trying to silence songs.
ReplyDeleteAt 3:00 am you might hear a different kind of song!
