"After the Rain" by Cyril Rolando |
It started with a singular tear
soon a river began to flow
after the rain, my head will clear
beyond the ridge sunlight appears
my eyes seek a higher plateau
it started with a singular tear
there's a song in my heart I hold dear
standing on the bridge, casting woes
after the rain, my head will clear
what lies beyond this earthly sphere
there's a place my soul seems to know
it started with a singular tear
perhaps, it is life's storms, I fear
today's, a new day, I'll take it slow
after the rain, my head will clear
forever; holding my dreams near
there's a song I knew long ago
it started with a singular tear
after the rain, my head will clear

Beautiful, True.....dreams, tears, hope, and that higher plateau.
ReplyDeleteHolding onto dreams even through the rain is what can keep us going
ReplyDeleteCan't rain all the time - the storms will pass.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful Villanelle... I feel both sorrow and blessing coming from that original tear.
ReplyDeleteI love this. The promises repeating - faith in clarity's return.
ReplyDeleteThis is beautifully evocative!!❤️ I especially love; "what lies beyond this earthly sphere there's a place my soul seems to know."
ReplyDeleteThis is a well done villanelle!
ReplyDeleteWow! What a haunting refrain/repetition. Great job with the villanelle … a challenging form!
ReplyDeleteSometimes I think that is all we can ask for--that time will fix things--I can't write a villanelle to save my life--you make it look so easy!
ReplyDeleteI love the flow in this and the repitation reaffirms the message! This is beautiful Truedessa!
ReplyDeleteWhat a splendid villanelle True! After the rain, much is clear.
ReplyDeleteTears are like rain and it starts with a single one. A sad take on things but hope still
ReplyDeleteSweetly sad.
ReplyDeleteThe rhymes and repetitions help give a wonderfully reassuring feel which underpins the meaning.
ReplyDeleteGreat selection of the first three lines that need to repeat in this form!
ReplyDeleteOh yes, that single tear can release the floodgates... and bring on healing!
ReplyDeleteSuperb. Following on GFC. My sincere compliments.
ReplyDeleteTears are definitely better when they are lonesome than when they come in company!
ReplyDeleteAn exquisite Villanelle, all beginning with that single tear.
