James Dean playing the bongos, NYC, 1955. Photographed by Dennis Stock ” |
Caught in the beat of the bongo
there is poetry waiting to happen
who knows where the heart will go
there's magic when fingers start tappin'
escaping from life's maddening rhythm
releasing negativity and tension
the dreamer in me, has a new vision
each thump leads in a new direction
give me a creative song, I can believe in
let words flow from the poetic soul
healing a modern world, where to begin
picking up pieces, longing to be whole
taking life one beat at a time

Thank you for visiting
I can see how picture appealed to you - the dreamer and the drummer......I echo "give me a song I can believe in....."
ReplyDeleteWow - That was quick, I just posted it! I actually drummed for a bit today, it felt good.
DeleteYour poem is absolutely magical Truedessa. "Take life one beat at a time" wise and lovely my friend! I love that you played drums today!
ReplyDeleteThank you Carrie! I played for a bit after a long walk, I needed to clear my head.

Very true, True! We as individuals suffer at different times the indignity of being sick, physically suffering and out of jobs. Compounding this is the presence of the pandemic. Picking up the pieces will definitely be the major portion of our activities this year. Keep safe Ma'am!
Hank
Hi Hank, picking up pieces of ourselves and our lives is difficult today with the pandemic. I wish you well in that endevour. I have good and bad days it seems.

ReplyDeleteOne beat at a time is all we can manage.
Ha, thanks Alex, I do have a love for my drum..and the beat goes on.
DeleteThis...may have convinced me to get a drum. :) This gave me the sense that the drum was allowing all the pieces to be shaken out and replaced.
ReplyDeleteYou should get a drum, they bring a sense of rhythm into ones life.
DeleteTaking one day at a time and picking up the pieces. Wise advice!
ReplyDeleteThe sage in me sometimes as words of wisdom. Wishing you peace in your life Bev
DeleteDrum beating, what an incredible release it is. I know, cause I've done it many times. Cathartic, healing, empowering. Love your poem, True.
ReplyDeleteYes, Helen, it is indeed healing and an incredible release of energy. Thank you, play on.
DeleteHave to hope the beat is in tune as away we go, but can sure only take it a beat at a time.
ReplyDeleteNice surprise to see you here! One beat at a time, indeed.
DeleteI can tell that "there is poetry waiting to happen" even thinking about the beat by all the neat poems here today. The best I ever played was a tonette.
